I don't know how the ships will be obtained, but knowing that EA announced this whole new game mechanic out of no where leads me to believe that the decision was motivated by their bottom line. I'm sure everyone will get a tie-fighter or maybe an X-Wing, but it'd be hard to believe that they'll give us a ship like the Falcon without paying a penny.
As far as upgrading or "gearing" your ship, I'd think it would mainly revolve around credits. It would explain the amount of credit heists we've been getting and the huge scaling of rewards. I don't know the amount of credits it takes to level your toon to 80, but multiply that figure by 5 or maybe even 10. That'll be the price to upgrade your ship. Ultimately, creating an even bigger credit crunch.
Never saying anything? Most of us have known this was coming, they've had the spot with ships shown on the main screen forever now.
Sorry. I'll rephrase that. They basically slid everything under the table. They wiped Biggs "ship synergy" away from his description. They wanted us to stop speculating on the thought of ships. Why? Because it made zero sense whatsoever. The way the game was originally (and currently) designed has no place for ships.
EA saw that their was clearly a demand for ships. Potentially creating another avenue to generate more revenue for the company. That's why Jesse officially announced that there will be ships. I thought it was done in a very premature way. No details, just stating that they will be here one day.
Personally I hope the ships just offer a passive bonus to your squad. Implementing them any further than that will probably break the game. I don't want them to add another game inside of a game that is already filled with bugs and other issues.
