Launcher crashes when I open the downloads tab in Sims 3

Game launcher crashes when I open the downloads tab in Sims 3, maybe someone has ideas how to fix this problem. I play in Mac. I uninstalled everything and then reinstalled but unfortunately it didn't help. I bought a new world - Roaring Heights Gold Edition but I can't download it in my game when launcher crashes.

  • greatsimlover10  That's interesting, and hopefully a sign that Apple is addressing the underlying issue.  (I don't know whether that's happening, but it would be great.)  Do you see a second plumbob in the Dock when you try to install HS?  If so, click it and see whether you get the installer.  It does take a few seconds to open, so be patient.

Otherwise, you're stuck using the Downloads Dashboard at the Main Menu, at least for now.

Hello everyone, I have the same issue and am on a Mac as well. I haven't really been able to get TS3 to work successfully for years, even before the forced 64-bit update, and every time I think to try again it's something new.

An addition to this issue I have that makes it impossible to use the "Downloads Dashboard" workaround from in-game is that the launcher and app will not recognize my TS3 store credentials. I opened the website in my web browser to log in and it worked just fine. I tried downloading them from the website, and I saw it add an exclamation point to the Downloads tab in the launcher but I dare not click it since that's what broke it before and turned it into an endless cycle of crashing. I then thought I might try the Downloads Dashboard and see if it will let me install from there, but I just have an endless spinning plumbob saying "Connecting."

I think my main issue is not being able to log in. I looked up this issue separately and all I found were similar advice of turn off your VPN, turn off private relay, etc. etc. all of which I have done, to no avail. I also saw plenty of advice for Windows users that I cannot use, of course.

I'm pretty frustrated as well. All I want is the two worlds I have that I've had for over a decade, Hidden Springs and Riverview. I used to have them installed but due to a totally different issue years back I had to do a total clean install of TS3 and so I lost the worlds. Replying in case Maxis ever decides to fix this. I find it insane that they're still allowing purchases of packs and content from the TS3 store knowing that Mac users basically cannot use TS3 as a whole if they want new packs or store content.

  • prinxcipe  For the stuck connecting issue, open Keychain Access, in Applications > Utilities, search for sims3 , and delete any entries you find.  Before trying to connect again, clear Safari's cache and cookies, and also remove the Downloads folder in Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 3.  This should clear all data related to signing in or downloading content.

Once you've done all that, try the Downloads Dashboard again.  If it doesn't work, let me know whether you can successfully log into the launcher.  There's no reason you should have to, but it's a useful test.

  • I find it insane that EA does a Sims 3 sale when this bug is still a thing. I bought Hidden Springs, but it's useless, because I can't download it cause of this issue.
