The Sims needs more LIFE, not more stuff. Let’s talk about it?

Hi guys!  I’ve been thinking about this for a while.

Look at the most popular creators. Look at what they keep making. Look at what players keep downloading. There is a pattern.

We have a completely different generation of players now. People have grown up with TikTok, PS5, incredibly detailed games, open worlds, realistic animations, customization and so many different ways of experiencing games. And sometimes I wonder if The Sims is still trying to appeal to a younger generation using an idea of what “kid-friendly” or “fun” looks like that is simply outdated.

I don’t think the problem is that The Sims doesn’t have enough content.

We have SO many objects. SO many clothes. Worlds. Build items. CAS items. And now we are getting even more ways to buy things with the new currency system.

But when I look at what players actually download and famous CC creators, I see a very different pattern.

We are not always looking for more stuff. We are looking for more LIFE.

Look at creators like SimKatu. A lot of what makes their content so popular isn't another chair..  It’s animations and interactions!

More ways to hug.

More ways to interact with babies.

Napping with a baby.

Brushing or styling a child’s hair.

More everyday interactions between Sims.

These things may look small on paper, but when you actually play with them, they completely change how the game feels. The game suddenly feels more alive.

PandaSama is another great example. Their content gives pregnancy, babies and family life more things to actually EXPERIENCE. Baby showers, gender reveals and other interactions make these life stages feel like something happening in your Sim’s life

Lot 51 is another example, but in a different way.

And why, after all these years, do we still have so few small pets? Where are the rabbits as actual pets? Birds as pets? Other small animals that could become part of a family? These are not necessarily huge, complicated systems. But they would make the world feel so much more alive.

Hair is one of the most downloaded types of CC. SimTrouble stands out because they make 2–4 versions of the SAME hair, we can use for sleeping, swimming, going out, etc. That gives Sims LIFE.

What’s the point of having 50 hairstyles if they don’t connect with each other?

SimTrouble also gives us more representation, with many curly styles and different textures, anyway.

We don’t want fancy new features just for the sake of having them. We want realism, personality, and things that make our Sims feel "alive."

Look at the most popular creators and the content we keep downloading. There’s a clear pattern, and I think The Sims team is missing it.

Also, I wish we had small packs focused on what actually matters, animations, hair variety, interactions, and more pets. Like.. why don’t we have rabbits as pets? Birds? TheKalino is another a great example of how popular this kind of content is.

We don’t need more stuff. We need more LIFE, and there’s a clear pattern among mod creators showing us what “life” actually means.

I don't quite think you know how much it would cost to do that. Creating new animations isn't cheap at all and animations open up the realm of adding in more bugs to the game. The Sims teams primary focus for the forseeable future is to be fixing bugs and that includes animations.

Thanks for your comment! btw that’s why I think animation Kits could be a great solution. They wouldn’t need to add huge gameplay systems.

Just give them themes: family animations (like Growing Together), romance animations (like Lovestruck), sports animations (basketball, volleyball, etc.),everyday activities… there are SO many possibilities. Modders have been doing this for years. I’d honestly love to see the Sims team do something similar through small, animation-focused Kits.

  • I get what you are saying in essence, however you have to understand that The Sims 4 is no longer getting any packs with gameplay. The Sims 4's future is quality of live patches and cosmetic Kits and Maker Packs. That's it.
