No matter how many times I plant flowers and which sim I do it with, it doesn't count towards my challenge. I deleted everything from the mod folder - that doesn't change anything.

Report your experiences on the bugs reports forum. There is a lengthy thread of "Me too's" and EA is aware.
Hi, i have that same problem. No matter how many plants I planted, the task is still failed. 😓
dumb comment... obviously we did that!
Don't know if what I did will work for anyone but I made a new save, the task still popped up for me that I was on so I did it and it checked off so I went to my other save and it was updated that the task I couldnt do was checked off and other ones showed up and I got all my tasks completed.
I wish that worked for me. I tried that yesterday as well as today and the grim event UI is still blank. I've repaired the game, took out all mods, and did everything people have suggested here and in the reddit bug report forums. Very frustrating experience that I can't finish week 1 quest. :(
It seems different things work for different people which is really weird. I'm sorry you're still not able to play, I hope they fix it for everyone very soon.

I can't seem to progress in tasks, such as planting the lillie and snapdragon, seems to not count towards the rewards.
