Round Roofs causing game to freeze

When moving or resizing round roofs in build mode the game becomes unresponsive. I can place the roof but I cannot move or resize it. Once I touch the roof, I can still click on things and try to make changes, but the action doesn't complete. It reverts to the current state. If I reload the save and do not touch the roof I can do whatever else I like, and save with no issue, but as soon as I touch the roof it happens again. If I try to save after touching the roof I get the save buffer circle, but it just spins forever. The only out is to ctrl-alt-delete and shut down the program.

I removed all my mods before starting to build, so there is no custom content in my game.  Version 1.113.291.1020 DX11.  I have all packs.  I am building on the 64x64 Hay Hill lot in Ravenwood. Bug started happening with all packs up to Life and Death installed. This has been an issue for about a week.  Up until then I had no issues with all packs installed including Life and Death. This issue began just before the Burglar update came out.

I have rebooted and repaired the game and have all updates. I purchased Businesses and Hobbies  hoping there would be a fix in the new patches, but it didn't resolve the problem.

After having this problem for a week, and submitting the bug report, I decided to try placing different shaped roofs to see if the issue persisted with them.  They worked just fine.  I tried again with the round roof and now it's working properly. 🤯 So it just fixed itself.  If it happens again I'll report back.

  • Going to mark this as resolved for now but do come back

There's several reports with roofs/stairs freezing the game though, I lost track tbh.

  • tami7326  I tried to reproduce your issue in my testing user folder where I have never had any mods or CC.  I had no problem with locking up or saving nor any problem with placing, adjusting or moving the round roof on the round structure I built to test the roof.  So, my suspicion is that your mods or CC may still the be the cause of what you had happen if you were building in a save where you had played or built in before removing the mods and CC.  Some mods and CC can still affect a save it was in even after if you remove the them as they may have left something behind in the save.  Those type of things can linger long after the mod or CC item that leaves them has been removed.  You won't be able to get rid of them except by starting a new save.

So, my suggestion for you is do what I do.  I created a separate user folder that I only use for building only.  I don't have any mods or CC in that folder.  I have only one sim in the save so I can test the build after it's done so I can make sure I don't have any route blocks, etc. that might show up in live mode later.  Then I save the build to my Library.  Then I transfer the files in the Tray folder in my build user folder to the Tray folder in my main user folder where I play so I can install the build into my main save.  After transferring the files, I make sure I leave the Tray folder in the build user folder empty.  If I want to place any CC in the build, I place it after I get the new build in my play save.  I find that doing it that way works much better as I have fewer issues like you and others run into when building in the same save that they play in.  There is one big advantage to doing that too if you don't delete all the sims as I have.  Since all your builds will still be in the same save, if you have a major issue in your play save or get a bug that corrupts your play save, you can copy your build save to use as a starting point for a new save, so you don't have to install all those lots.  I can't do that since I deleted all the premade sims and NPCs in mine.  But if you don't delete any of the sims and turn aging and Neighborhood Stories off when you start the save, you can.

    Hope this helps.

CGrant56 Thanks for the advice, I will definitely have to try that out when using CC.  I always worry about it breaking my game. I get all my cc from Curse Forge because I feel like it's a safer platform than sourcing CC out in the wild. To clarify though, this was a new save, and I had completely removed my mods folder out of my game before starting the build, and ahead of downloading the new expansion pack. I replaced it with a new empty mods folder. I don't know if that could have caused any issues. I'm thinking there could have been a glitch in the coding for the roof, and when I tried placing a different roof it overwrote the previous code and replaced it with good code, allowing me to move on. I'm not sure if that's how it works, but I was able to complete my build from that point on with no further issues.
