Selecting Household takes me back to world selection screen.

I haven't played my game in a couple of months and tried to play yesterday.  I did the required update and the game loads just fine. However, when I go into a world and select my household to play, it just kicks me back to the word selection screen. It does this for any household I select. 

Please DO NOT suggest it is a MOD or CC issue. I spent the better part of four hours yesterday removing each one of my MODS/CC to update, repair or delete broken ones. I even removed the entire MOD folder and my game does the same thing. No difference. I have repaired my game twice, deleted the cache files and anything else I could find online to do and nothing has worked. This seems like an EA bug or issue from what I read and saw from others.
