Struggling to Fix this

Hi, I’m new to the forums so forgive me if I’m supposed to be in some sort of thread or not but I have a problem.

so in my sims game I play on a Mac and recently I got a hard drive to put all my mods and I’ve been doing fine. I recently wanted to put in some new mods but when I started up my game the mods aren’t installed(?). Like something is seriously wrong with my mods because all the mods I’ve had prior are working but the new ones don’t show. I even checked the folder to make sure it was in there and it was. And so I tried to take out my mods folder and started the game and the mods were still there. Like the folder is taken out but the mods are working. I am nervous to repair without mods because I’m scared that it’ll take out all the mods and then when I join all my sims cc will be started over. Please help, and please tell me if I’m supposed to be somewhere to trouble shoot.

  • Hello! And welcome to the forums.

Since this is concerning mods it'd probably be best to ask over here. https://forums.ea.com/category/the-sims-4-en/discussions/the-sims-4-mods-and-custom-content-en

Also, you might want to check the path to your mods folder. I had a similar problem but it was due to it being saved in OneDrive and not my actual  folder, since OneDrive is used in backing up files.

This doesn't currently sound like a Mod issue, more a basic file location issue on Windows and Mac and your Mods not being in the right place.

The game loads all user data such as saves and Mods from The Sims 4 folder in Documents > Electronic Arts. Any data outside of this location will not be loaded into the game. If you have a Mods folder in the Sims 4 folder and a Mods folder on an external drive the Mods folder in the Sims 4 folder will be loaded and the Mods folder on the external drive ignored. The game has no idea the Mods folder on the external drive even exists. You could move Mods and CC in and out of the Mods folder on the external drive all day and it would have no effect on what is loaded into your game.

You need to always trash the localthumbcache.package file every single time you make changes to the Mods folder in the Sims 4 folder.

If you want to store your Sims 4 folder on an external drive and have the game load the data from there rather than in Documents > Electronic Arts you have to create a symbolic link to do so.
