Trashley ruined my save. State of the game is upsetting.

Hello, Sims team. I hope somebody takes note of this. I know you're hard at work, and that it's a lot of work, but I felt I should just put my feelings out there. I couldn't find a similar thread about this particular issue, so here goes.

So, apparently we used to have a tickbox that prevented the game randomly generating people to fill empty homes. This was a good option. Apparently it's been consumed by the neighbourhood stories option, which I've had turned off, because I like a certain degree of control in my Sims games, y'know: maybe play a base game family, find out what their lives are like, etc. etc. In my own time. Someday, I'll get round to them.

Now it's a mess.

As noted in the thread about players being constantly prompted to select a season - as well as a lot of other settings being overridden - after being approached by Trashley, it turns out that they've done far more than I first expected. I didn't suspect anything at first. Did my own thing, made new characters, saw them off on their little journeys, maybe one day I'll build up to something big... But then I noticed that Kristopher and Jacob Volkov had abandoned Lily Zhu in order to live with a complete nobody in Willow Creek. Then it struck me: there are no empty homes anymore. Despite checking and unchecking neighbourhood stories after the initial Trashley settings-reset scare (I kinda foresaw something like this, but apparently that foresight wasn't enough), auto-population (and random NPC moves, apparently) has been happening without my awareness. Now I don't know which families are normal, which are random, which I have to delete and which I don't; there's what seems to be a hundred families I'll have to manually delete by hand, and who knows which families contain sims from Maxis-created families that decided to just fly the nest, one day? This has invalidated absolutely everything I'd been working on with this save - these characters, their careers, relationships, skills - because I now fear I'm going to have to scrap it all and start from scratch.

The worst part is, none of the workarounds people have mentioned in regards to the Trashley options-resetting issue have worked. I'm scared that the past month or so has been wasted. Even if I do delete and correct all the families in each and every world, who's to say the feature isn't forever bugged? Will the world just auto-repopulate again?

Considering the general state the game's in right now (werewolf face-bleaching, some features not working, bugs and glitches to the nines), it's genuinely upsetting. This has ruined my evening. This is the Sims equivalent of losing a Hardcore character, lol.
