Cloning Machine success rate

Is there anything that increases the Cloning Machine success rate? I can't pin it down. It doesn't seem like my scientists have a higher success rate. Sometimes all attempts are duds and sometimes all are successes, also regardless of moods. Anyone notice any pattern or know anything official about what can increase the rate of successes? Thanks!

  • It's been a while since I've played my scientist save. I remember though I'd be able to clone successfully maybe 4-5 times before the cloning machine fails to work. 'Tinkering' may help reset it and maybe maxing out the handiness skill would help as well? Hopefully someone else can suggest something. If there's a way to make them work 100% of the time, that would be terrific.

I literally just made an evil twin version of my favorite sim Abigail Hendricks. It named her Molly. I am going to have a lot of fun with this!! I love the scientist career so much!!!
  • I couldn't ever pin it down either other than they seemed to fail more if they were in a bad mood. I'd usually get them greened up and happy before sending them to clone for awhile.

Have fun with Molly @alan650111 I'm with you I love the scientist career :).

So does cloning just take the sims exact appearance? Does that new clone have no skills or aspirations?

No clue. Never used the cloning machine to close a sim. Only use it to clone items. I close primarily need fixer potions, especially since the book of life became bugged (or nerfed?), moodlet solver potion, snaggle fluster (for improving skill faster), and food that doesn't spoil (made by sims who have completed culinary aspiration). I typically have six cloning machines per household, with two need fixers, two snaggle flusters, and one moodlet solver potion, and my sims continuously clone these items between other tasks and skill building. I don't build any skill without being under the influence of snaggle fluster, so I drink those a lot. Then on occasion I will replicate a bunch of food, typically the 8 servings kind, and cakes. Then I put the food on those round buffet tables and the rest in the fridge. It's annoying that the maid always puts the food back; I wish there was a way for them not to. Sometimes I also replicate gems and and other collectibles especially those used for crafting other items. One of the items I've found most useful to clone also have been spliced plants. I have several of those alien plants that produce the UFO fruit spliced with like ten different regular plants, to get a super compact garden. Then these spliced plants can be replicated by being put on and taken off the cloning machine in build mode. I haven't yet done it but I plan to plant these spliced plants in other households also so each household can have a compact garden. Those street sale tables are great for putting cloned items in, then the table can be dragged to a player's inventory, and everything stays in there during travel and between moves to other households. Cloning rocks, the only thing I too wish is that we could clone more items.

Yes.. the clones look like the sim and have the same traits usually but no skills, sometimes you get an evil clone though and I guess that's like getting a failed cloned object (but more fun). I use it to make more crystals/metals to build things or potions much like @sineea mentioned. I had to grin that you even use the buffet table to set them out I do that too with food that doesn't spoil and often put potions on them.
  • I just cloned my first Sim. He doesn't have any needs. Is this a bug or will this remain?

**Never mind, they appeared with travel.
  • The cloning machine success rate is related to the logic, skill and the level you are at the scientist job, that is about it. It learns start out with something simple and over time it will learn everything. I have it set out in front of my scientist sim home that way the neighborhood can use it to clone stuff they need. The machine can clone only one square objects, it can clone drinks, reward potions most collectables and small items. The machine will clone the current state of whatever the food was in when cloned, so if you have a single plate of spaghetti it would clone only a single plate of spaghetti, if you had a group serving of spaghetti it would clone the group serving of spaghetti. It won't clone books or anything like that. Also it will clone the current state of plants, if they are in seed form it will clone them as seeds if they are in fruit or viable form it will clone it as a fruit or vegable. It will clone most flowers death flower and angel fish and I am pretty sure it will clone ambrosia but I never was able to test it.
