I also use this approach. Leveling up skills can be a bit grindy, so I always try to make it feel organic and part of the gameplay. Gardening is great anyway, because I like for my Sims to cook with perfect ingredients. Getting them into the habit of jogging is good, because that is the best way for them to keep their shape (which they can easily lose in my game due to the gourmet cooking skill) and chess also builds fun. I also like to have my Sim 'ponder moves' on the chess table before they garden to get the 'Focussed' modlet which helps building the gardening skill faster. But you can also place an element cube in your garden for that or examine a fossil, element etc before gardening. "BatmanFanGirl;d-970268" wrote:
Do you focus on one skill and level it up to max, or do you do different skills and level them all up equally? I have a sim whom I need to level up gardening, logic, and fitness in hopes of getting a distinguished degree from Foxbury institute. I'm trying to figure out the best way.
for creative/inspirational: create a house, put down the baiscs, add a easel and wall and add the ability to paint murals. have a computer as well for writing and research art.
work your cooking skills to level 10 and get an inspirational moodlet, research art and finish a mural as well as learning cooking for cooking videos. add in the various lot traits specifically targeting those creative outlets. you can get multiple skills levelled very quickly.- I don’t grind or focus on levelling skills. I just play the game and let it happen.
If I did want to level fitness and logic I’d probably go the basketball hoop and the observatory. - If in a rush, cheat. (Charisma Example: stats.set_skill_level major_charisma 10) ;)
- Admiral8Q6 years agoSeasoned Ace@BatmanFanGirl Logic and Fitness are relatively "easy" to build up. Just alternate between the two and have a variety of ways to gain the skills. Some are loner ones like games on the computer that also satisfy "fun", but not "social" needs like playing chess. And if you have other household Sims who can do the mundane stuff like clean toilets, do the cooking, take out the trash, etc LOL! That's a big help. Then for the one you're focusing on, other than constantly having to pee, shower/bathe, sleep, eat, do fun stuff, it won't take too long.
Personally, I was turned off on the constant grind of that stuff from the fist SIMs game. I bought SIMs 4 when I saw there was mods and cheats to help accelerate the game. With the cheats, (done reasonably), I find I can reduce the irritating grind parts and focus on the more enjoyable parts. For example, hardlyhungry and neverweary are the two cheats I end up using the most on characters I want to build. :) I did use the steelbladder also on my guy I wanted to be an astronaut. I got sick and tiered of having to send him to the toilet over and over and over... while he's trying to build a rocketship.
As for gardening, I'm starting to finally work on that at one household. So, not sure on that one yet. - My sims are like me, they don't have a schedule at all. So, when grinding skills, they just grind until they either burnout or max out. They have meals sporadically, and sometimes they only get an hour of sleep before work, if they even have a regular job. I play the game more like an RPG than a life simulation. LOL!
- Scobren6 years agoLegendAging off is the easiest way. That way you can take your time with your Sims without feeling as stressed and makes raising toddlers easier too, then turn on aging when you are ready for them to grow up. Also researching skills on the computer help raise skills faster too.
- GypsyRozLyn6 years agoSeasoned AceI have sent many sims to uni and in my experience, you only need certain skills to level level 3 to qualify for distinguished degrees and if you use the research machine - you get two skills at one - whatever skill you are researching that the research skill itself which really helps with uni.
- I mix them like many above me have mentioned. Mostly though, that's for my own sanity. Staring at a sim standing at a mirror talking to himself for hours is no fun to me, so if I have a sim who needs charisma, logic and gardening I'm more apt to have him garden in the morning before work, then invite a friend over for a few games of chess and conversation after dinner. I'm a fan of leveling charisma by talking to sims my sims like to have around.
