Gameplay crashing

I just recently bought a brand-new Microsoft monitor and mini-PC to play sims and it keeps crashing. The mini-PC has 16 GB, and all mods have been removed from the game. I get about 10 minutes of gameplay in, and the computer either turns completely off or closes out of the game. I've looked into previous discussions on here with no luck. I've already tried-clearing cache, repairing the game, uninstalling and reinstalling the game/driver program, system reset of PC, both dx9 and dx11, new save of the game.

  • smaines16  Your dxdiag shows a crash of the graphics driver followed by a BlueScreen, three times in a row.  So the next step here is to do a clean uninstall and reinstall of the driver.  Here's how:

    https://crinrict.com/blog/2019/02/clean-re-install-of-graphics-drivers-with-display-driver-uninstaller-ddu.html

Rather than using the newest AMD driver, however, try the one from August.  I've seen a few reports that point to a potential issue with the current driver, and the one from August is new enough to be compatible with Sims 4.  You can get it here:

    https://www.amd.com/en/support/downloads/previous-drivers.html/processors/ryzen/ryzen-5000-series/amd-ryzen-7-5700g.html

If you get another crash while using this driver (and don't let your computer auto-update the driver), please look for new errors in the Reliability Monitor.  Click Windows key-R and enter "perfmon /rel" without quotes, and you'll see a chart of errors and updates with a column for each day.  Today is on the right.

Look for an error that happened at exactly the time of your most recent Sims 4 crash.  If you find one, double-click it to see more details, then copy that info and paste it into a reply here.  If you don't see a new error, check back in an hour or so—the Reliability Monitor doesn't always update right away.

  • puzzlezaddict I did the clean uninstall and reinstalled the AMD driver from August. It crashed while playing again. Listed below is the new error message.

  • smaines16  That's an illegal instruction, but there's no information about the context, other than that you're playing in the DirectX 9 version.  Please try DX11 mode, for comparison's sake.

Please continue to test with your Mods folder removed.  And it's worth trying a new save too, or another new one if the one you've been using was started before yesterday's patch.

  • puzzlezaddict I just ran DX11 mode with a new save and the game crashed. I have noticed since doing the clean uninstall only the game crashes whereas before the whole computer crashed. So, it at least improved that aspect.

  • smaines16  Do you get the same crash type, or a different one?  This is the "illegal instruction" part:

    Exception Code:    c000001d

The rest should be similar except you'd be running TS4_x64 rather than TS4_DX9_x64.  You could also just post the entire new error if you want.

  • puzzlezaddict The last 2 codes I got from the Sims app crashing are listed below. I had two windows errors with the 1st exception code listed. One stated "the computer has rebooted from a bug check" and the other was "shutdown unexpectedly". I added snips below.

    Exception Code:    c0000005
    Exception Code:    80000003

  • smaines16  Bug check (as in, Blue Screen) 1e suggests a hardware incompatibility or a malfunctioning driver, but it's unfortunately not any more specific than that.  A hardware incompatibility is less likely on a laptop due to how many components are dictated by the manufacturer by virtue of being soldered to the motherboard, so that leaves a bad driver.  Please run Microsoft's Driver Verifier, with the "automatically select all drivers" option, as described here:

    https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardware/drivers/devtest/driver-verifier

Let me know what you find.
