[Solved] Sims 4 stuck on title screen during start-up

Hi,

I am currenty having an issue with The Sims 4 that seemingly just happened. It was not caused by and update nor by my mods, because I've removed all of them and it happened a couple of weeks after and update (Not the most recent update).

The issue is that my game just seems to kind of freeze at the title screen, the music is playing but it seems to kind of stutter so I am assuming that is also happening to the game.

I have tried almost all the stuff I could find on the Internet, including:
- Repairing the game
-Uninstalling and reinstalling the game
- Updating the EA lancher
- Remove/clear the cache
- Remove/rename the Sims 4 file in my documents
- Starting the game in Offline mode
- Disabling Overlays in the EA App and my graphics card

I have even disabled/changed some audio device settings but nothing has seemed to work.

Is this another bug in the Sims 4 or is it something caused by my PC (Windows 10/11, AMD Radeon RX 6600/6600 XT)

Any help/suggestions would be appriciated!

Thanks in advance.

  • someonesmelon  Is everything still working now?  One reason the game might start up only very slowly is interference from an antivirus, so check yours for any recent actions involving Sims 4 or the EA App.  If necessary, set exceptions for TS4_x64.exe and TS4_Launcher_x64.exe, plus EADesktop.exe for good measure.  Or if you want to test the theory, temporarily disable the AV (just long enough to see whether it helps), then set the exceptions if warranted.

Of course, another reason for slow loading is a large collection of mods and custom content, so if you've added back the mods and cc, test without them again at least once.

The message from sfc is fine, it did its job.

I would like to add now that the Sims started up after about an hour, and it seems to be working as it should.

I am unsure if the issue is fixed, but at the very least it does not seem like a lost cause

Edit: I think the issue is fixed!, Thank you so much for your help!

This is the message i recieved after the "sfc /scannow":
    "PS C:\Users\Gebruiker> sfc /scannow

Beginning system scan. This process will take some time.

Beginning verification phase of system scan.
    Verification 100% complete.

Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files and successfully repaired them. For online repairs, details are included in the CBS log file located at windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For example C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For offline repairs, details are included in the log file provided by the /OFFLOGFILE flag."

I have also updated my graphics driver to the newest version (Starting by the one you reccomended and going one by one untill 26.3.1), but it did not seem to work. It was still stuck on the title screen, but it also seemed that the start up animation was now also stuttering. I tried restarting my PC and repairing the game but now it seems it does not want to open entirely anymore.
TaskManager is saying its using Low CPU, about 300MB of Ram and slight disc activity so its probably doing something.

I am afraid this issue is probably caused by my PC's hardware, but I have made a new DxDiag just in case!.

Thanks for your help so far!

  • someonesmelon  Most of the errors in your dxdiag are Edge update failures, which shouldn't have anything to do with Sims 4 (and wouldn't have an effect while you were playing offline).  Still, it's a good idea to clean those up, especially since they're happening so frequently.  So please run a couple of basic checks of your Windows system files:

    • Click Windows key-X and select "Powershell (Administrator)" or "Windows Terminal (Administrator)" , whichever you see
    • In the window that appears, copy and paste "DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth" without quotes, and enter
    • The system will take a little while to validate; if it throws an error, please list it
    • Otherwise, copy and paste "sfc /scannow" without quotes into the window, and enter
    • Post the message you receive

Restart your computer, open Windows Settings > Update & Security, click the box to check for updates, and if any install, restart again afterwards.

The two Sims 4 errors are type AppHangB1, which is somewhat generic but can be due to an issue with the graphics driver.  Since your version is a bit old, I'd suggest updating.  But rather than going right to the newest version, try slightly older ones first, which you can find here:

    https://www.amd.com/en/support/downloads/previous-drivers.html/graphics/radeon-rx/radeon-rx-6000-series/amd-radeon-rx-6600-xt.html

Start with 25.10.2, from October, and if it doesn't work, try the next, then the next, etc.  Stick with the WHQL versions, not the Optional ones.

When installing a new driver, run the installer as an admin: right-click the download and select "Run as administrator."  Restart your computer afterwards and before trying to play.

And in general, keep in mind that the game might not work correctly after it freezes or crashes if you don't also restart the system before testing again.  Please also keep testing with your Mods folder removed, since keeping mods or custom content in the game can complicate troubleshooting.

  • someonesmelon  Please provide a dxdiag.  Click Windows key-R, enter dxdiag in the run box, wait for the scan to finish, click "Save all information," and save the file to your desktop.  From there, you can attach it to a reply using the paper clip (Attachment) icon included with the other formatting buttons.
