[APEX Legends] Extreme FPS drops [UNPLAYABLE]

 i7-6700K CPU @ 4.00GHz, 4001 Mhz, 4 Cores, 8 Processors
32 GB DDR4 RAM
NVIDIA GTX 1080 8 GB RAM

Pre-Octane update I ran comfortable at 90 FPS on max settings.
Post-Octane update I run at about 90 FPS on minimum graphics as long as I don't move, nothing on my screen moves, and I don't look around.
I get FPS drops down to 1(less common) to 10 (more common) frames during engagements with a single user.

The game uses Easy Anti-Cheat. One thing EAC does it stops you from changing the CPU priority of the game.

[BEGIN EDIT] Tech support walked through how to change priority through the task manager, which cannot be done due to... you guessed it, EAC. user walk-throughs of doing it through registry are fruitless and do not work. I finally discovered how it could be done myself. Open Origin > Game Library > Right click Apex > Game Properties > In the Command Line Arguments put "-High" (((No quotations))). You're welcome. Oh and, raising the priority did not fix my frame drops, though it did make them less frequent. [END EDIT]

The first thing tech support asked me is if I raised the CPU priority to fix my FPS drops...

After telling them I FACTORY RESET my PC along with all other troubleshooting methods (to include trying an entirely different graphics card, above and beyond normal troubleshooting) they tell me it's a known bug and to report it as a bug, there is nothing they can do.

You start a competitive season with a known bug making the game unplayable... You have tech support make suggestions that you have disabled through your choice of third party cheat prevention...

As Bangalore would probably say, this situation is FUBAR.

  • You will all be glad to know, the update fixed my frame issues. Apparently Apex downloaded better hardware into my PC... Or it wasn't my PC. ^-^

Hey @0SecretSquirrel, first thing is that your UO Trace looks okay, the only hop that I would worry about is the third one where you have a Ping best/worst of  7ms / 135ms. Any difference of 100ms or more can cause issues.

Looking at your DxDiag and your GPU drivers appear to be about a month out of date, the best thing to do is go ahead and ensure that you have the most recent drivers from here installed: https://www.geforce.com/drivers

Let me know if doing so makes a difference.

  • Welcome to the club.

Pre Octane update, the game was perfectly fine, FPS over 100 on my fx8350, r9 390x.
Post Octane update, frame drops while fighting to under 10fps, game crashes.

Switched to RX 580 4GB, same results.

Reinstalled Windows, repaired game, reinstalled the game, nothing helped.

Turning to lowest settings with the same result.

  • My apologies, did not update the DxDiag when I updated the GPU driver from the website before calling tech support. Here is the updated DxDiag. No change in performance. (I feel like performance has actually decreased, but that might just be me seeing the issues through pessimistic goggles).

As for the ping spike, I promise you I do know the difference between frame drops and latency issues. Although at times I do have latency issues, that is not the issue that was caused by the recent update.

  • Let me make this very clear, I love the game. There are nearly no games that I will spend so much time and frustration trying to make work. That is why I am so frustrated with this patch breaking my game, because I really want to continue playing it.

Watching my GPU usage graph, my frames are dropping to the 1-10 range when I'm using the least amount of GPU. (Near the end when GPU usage drops to 0 is when I closed Apex after dying during the last highlighted FPS drop.

  • I have also been having these issues as of the past few days was at 80 fps in game i have recording of it. With ryzen 5 2600. Rx 570 now struggling a week later to keep 50fps
