Cannot accept invites of recent teammates

I cannot seem to either invite or accept invites of teammates UNTIL I separately make them a friend them through Origin.  I can do the action of invites and I can see invites come my way but they disappear in a second.  Even if I click it or hit Y, it does nothing.  Once I friend them, I can invite them.   I have "Origin in Game" turned on, as well as "Restricted Access" off.  I also tried making both Origin and Apex run administrator privledges by default but to no avail.  I have also turned off all 3rd party overlay software (RSST and Discord).  Any insights?  I'm lost.
