Re: Bad_module_info

@EA_Blueberry- I managed to get a crash to happen while Process Monitor was running on my machine. I'd like to send my Logfile if you can tell me how to send it over to you guys privately. I am concerned that this file will contain personally identifiable information. This file is approximately 550MB.

With everyone else confirming the same results that should be enough for our team to try and replicate it. We've forwarded this up and can't confirm it's what's causing this but it was an exceptional find. Appreciate all the help and we'll keep you updated!

  • @EA_Blueberry happy to help! I truly appreciate you and the team looking into it.

My gut feeling is that the security events being logged in Event Viewer a second before bad_module_info are simply from Windows Error Reporting logging on and getting administrative permissions, which is a normal part of it's process when trying to log an error.

I'd really like to share the Logfile I have from ProcMon with you if possible since it pinpoints the exact instance (to the microsecond) when some pretty crucial operations occur including the moment that WerFault.exe initiates a Create File operation directly on C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Apex\r5apex.exe

From there it turns to thousands upon thousands of WerFault.exe operations occurring per second - a majority of which have a Result reporting as BUFFER OVERFLOW. Eventually  R5Apex.exe has Process Exit operation on the thread and then a subsequent Close File on C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Apex\r5apex.exe

I have to head in to the office now, but if you do decide that you'd like the Logfile just let me know and I'd be happy to share. Thanks again to you and the devs for taking a look!

@PotatoPotahtoh I really love your investigation. From my side on it looks like the auditing is just running every 5-10 mins :

But your idea with procmon is awesome, I'll give it a try 🙂

I'm sorry to say this but this is getting beyond pathetic. How long has it been already? Three weeks? Three weeks of random crashes that literally make me wanna quit the game? And, on top of that, some random guy on the forums is doing all the job instead of the actual devs? And the devs are actually taking notes from that guy?! You've made the game such great success, can you not screw it up at least this one time?

  • Just reinstalled windows.. Everything is clean.. Bad module error every game... It's really pathetic..

It's  Every game now for me, crashes on the drop just after jumping from ship or before landing. Turned all options down to low, still bangs me straight to the desktop.

Annoying as i used to be able to play a few games before it happened, but its now unplayable,

I have the same results as Potato. Nice catch dude.
Buffer overflow would indicate a request for data of an unknown size. If the assigned buffer is too small then it will re-request until it is sufficient.
Looks like its never getting there before process termination.
Question is, is the WER buffer overflow bomb causing the process termination? Or symptomatic of a coding problem that would cause a crash anyway.
It's clear there is a coding issue anyway. But I will try and test today whilst disabling the Windows error reporting service.
Hopefully that may serve as a sub-optimal sticking plaster until changes can be made.
    I'll update with results.
I'd only recommend trying this if you are very confident with your IT skills.

@EA_Blueberry @HeySupM8 I just had a full 2-3 hour session without a crash, even improving my graphic settings along the way.  What seems to have fixed it for me, after this Origin patch which may have something to do with it, was disabling Windows Audio Endpoint Builder in "Services" and enabling Windows Audio. Did that, didn't crash.  Odd.  Hopefully I continue to not crash.

    CPU: AMD FX-6300

Glad you were able to fix it that way. If anyone else using an AMD FX series card this is the post: https://answers.ea.com/t5/Technical-Issues/AMD-Server-timeout-amp-crash-fix-fx-series/m-p/7534180#M22660
