Weird Sound Issue (cant hear other players)

So a while back I reformatted my PC and installed Windows 11. I was previously running Windows 11 that was upgraded from Windows 10 and had no issues.

Since formatting my game sound is fine and others can hear me but I cannot hear anyone at all ever. Typically when I start a game both other players will be muted and unmuting them does nothing. Even if a friend joins my party he will be muted immediately and unmuting him doesnt work. So its an odd issue where everything works except for me hearing other people.

Things I have tried:

- Completely removing and reinstalling my audio drivers (Gigabyte AORUS X470 Gaming 7 with Realtek ALC1280). Also tried using an older driver

- Turning off Windows Firewall completely

- Specifically allowing apex executables through the windows firewall

- Updating every driver on the PC

One other issue I had after my format is that every time I'd run Apex it would pop up a window asking me to pick an application to run something. I assume it was the xbox game bar (which I then installed manually later)

Any suggestions?

Hmm, gotcha. Thanks for checking that as well.

Just to confirm, have you double-checked the Communication Filter under the Gameplay settings to make sure it's set to allow voice comms? If it's set to Friends Only or Muted that might be preventing you from hearing some voice chat.

    Hi @WoodroweBones

Could you post a DxDiag when you have the chance so we can take a look? You can find more info on how to pull one up at the EA Help website

Once you have the text file please attach it to this thread. Thanks!

Did a quick look over the file... I dont have much experience reading DXDiags but I'm a computer tech of 20+ years. I didnt see anything concerning.

At this point I'm debating reinstalling again (this time I wont choose the "N" version of windows as that may be the root of the issue?)

    Thanks for sharing!

I have seen some issues with N versions of Windows because of a missing media pack. Have you tried downloading the Media Pack from the Microsoft Support website to see if that might help?

Let me know if you're still having any audio issues afterward. Thanks again.

Sorry should have mentioned it originally. I installed the N version but almost immediately had to install the Media Feature Pack as running Apex from Steam would fail at the DirectX install part until I did. After I enabled the media pack I was able to launch Apex. So I'm wondering if there is still some component missing

    @WoodroweBones

No worries, thanks for the update!

I'm curious if the Windows System File Checker is able to find any missing components. If you haven't already can you give that a shot to see if it helps? You can find more info on how to run the tool at the Microsoft Support website

Let me know how that goes when you're able to give it a shot. Thanks!

Yep I have done that as well. Came back all good.

I've also tried checking event viewer around the times I've started the game and loaded into a match and nothing pops up that I can see (but there are a ton of logs so I may not be checking in the right spot)

    Well isnt my face red!

I never even know that option existed in gameplay settings! I've never touched but it must have gotten turned on during my last reinstall!

Thanks for all the help and sticking with it! Much appreciated!
