Performance of the L115 and Mini Scout

Personally, I feel the stats for the L115 and the Mini Scout—especially their bullet velocity—should be swapped.
Why is it that even with an extended barrel, a sniper rifle designed for ultra-long-range combat only reaches a bullet velocity of 878 m/s?
Its rate of fire is second only to the Mini Scout, but for a weapon intended for ultra-long-range combat, shouldn’t bullet velocity be more important than rate of fire?
As for the Mini Scout, since it excels in every aspect except bullet velocity, there’s no reason to use any other sniper rifle. The only reason to use another sniper rifle would be if you want to get kills from over 800 meters in maps like Firestorm.

As EA forces DICE to move closer to a COD style of shooters, its all about tacti-cool and not so much about accuracy. The skill gap has got to be reduced and easy to obtain.

Once players become familiar with the weapon platform and the unique weapon, they drop the range finder for more useful attachments. Range finder only really works with stationary and long range engagements and those are far and few between because of the short sightlines and narrow kill lanes. Velocity with around 900m/s almost feels like hit scan unless the target is at a dead sprint perpendicular to you or in an open vehicle. If you're not in the active combat area, you're just getting assists if you can't hit the sweet spot or a headshot.

You can bind the range finder to your ADS button but unless you are spot on with your ADS, you'll have to re-set the range finder again. For most, that is a very problematic inconvenience.

The drop had more to do with the how long the sightlines were.  In BF6 there are not many shots beyond 300m, but I killed snipers in BF3 at 500-1000m all the time. I think the there is only slightly less drop in BF6 than there was in BF3, it is just that the shots are much closer range.

I vividly remember the longest headshot I have ever gotten in a BF game using the 98B in BF3.  2153m and I had to hold so high over the target that they were just below the bottom of the scope. It took like 4 seconds for the bullet to get there.  The bottom of the 10x scope in BF6 is somewhere around 17-1800m using the M2010+ex barrel+LR bullets and 90 FOV, which is similar to the 98B

Interestingly, BF3 was the only BF title with a fully functional mRAD reticle. The elevation marks in all other BF title are meaningless.

  • snipers are fine, the only thing they need to do is remove the range finder entirely.

Sure, progression is exactly that, an improvement on the previous versions. I'll not hijack the tread but will mention that high velocity across all weapons and platforms leaves little uniqueness to weapons, including sniper rifles.

If we adjusted to velocities to be similar to other similar weapons, there's no uniqueness nor situations where one weapon performs better than the others.

Where I am most likely agreeing with you, I've interpreted the mini scout to be a mid to long range with high rof for a bolt action, lower damage, and a the noticeable reduction in velocity and bullet drop. When I compared it to the new (but old) rifle in S3 and I couldn't find a situation where you would take the new one in any situation. For me, the sv98 is a sweet spot for most situations with the attachments that can be used.

IMO, if the mini scout had long range ammo with minimal drag, it's just like it's predecessors.

Compared to the previous game in the series, I feel like the bullet’s muzzle velocity has clearly increased. However, I’m not comparing it to past titles. This suggestion is based solely on the current state of *Battlefield 6*.
Isn’t it about time we stopped comparing this game to titles from before the previous installment?

Someone gonna tell'em that BF6 has some of the highest muzzle velocity of the series? Remember the drop on the M98B? I sure do.

  • The funny part here is that the L115 having the slow speed is likely because it's been designed with a future sniper rifle nerf already baked in.  There was a bunch of data mining regarding weapon damage/recoil/bullet speed/everything and one of the things was an across the board nerf to sniper rifle bullet speed.

Which didn't make it into the S3 launch patch.  IF however they follow through, it will put every sniper rifle -PSR in the same realm as the L115.  PSR will remain the only speedy boi, though I think it was also nerfed slightly.

As for long range, I thought that all sniper rifles get 1 shot headshots at any range.  Personally I always use the SV because I like it the most, and I don't think I could say it has any more or less benefit in ELR sniping.
