The IGLA should be removed from the game

The Igla should be removed from the game until the flare interaction bug is properly fixed. At this point, it’s the only realistic way to make air gameplay bearable again.

The developers have already acknowledged that there is a bug involving how AA missiles interact with flares. In the recent Discord Q&A, it was confirmed that missiles can sometimes ignore flares entirely. This isn’t speculation anymore. The issue is known.

The problem is that the Igla is by far the worst offender.

This isn’t an occasional annoyance that happens once every few days. Anyone who spends a significant amount of time flying will run into it repeatedly. If you’re flying and you’re actually surviving long enough to engage in air combat instead of crashing or dying to simple mistakes, there’s a very good chance you’ll die multiple times to missiles that completely ignore your flares.

That is not a minor bug. It’s a game-breaking issue for air vehicles.

The frustrating part is that this has existed in some form since release. Lock-on missiles and AA missiles have always had inconsistent interactions with flares. Sometimes they work correctly. Sometimes they don’t. The Igla, however, takes the problem to another level. It seems to ignore flares far more often than any other launcher in the game.

When your primary defensive countermeasure randomly fails, there is no meaningful counterplay. Flying becomes less about skill, positioning, or decision-making and more about hoping the game doesn’t decide that your flares simply don’t count this time.

I understand that fixing this bug may not be simple and could take time. That’s exactly why I think temporary action should be taken instead of waiting indefinitely while the issue continues to affect every pilot in the game.

Remove the Igla from the game until the bug is fixed.

While the launcher is disabled, investigate exactly why it behaves differently from other AA launchers and why it appears to ignore flares so frequently. More importantly, continue working on a proper fix for flare interactions across all lock-on and AA missiles so that the problem is finally resolved at its source.

The current situation makes air gameplay unnecessarily frustrating, and the Igla is the biggest contributor to that frustration. Until the bug is fixed, it has no place in the game.

I am not discounting the claims that AA missiles are ignoring flares and are possibly more likely true than not. From what I have experienced, my missiles will simply wander off in flight even where flares were not used. I am sure there is some mechanic that I don't grasp. DICE has commented that AA missiles may continue on their trajectory from where the missile lost it's lock guidance. Maybe this applies to ATGMs where chaff smoke is used. I suppose if a helicopter pilot is hovering and not attempting to maneuver, they may get hit by the missile since it's simply trying to get to the last know location of the craft. I have also witnessed missiles chase flares. As long as players understand that flaring doesn't guarantee immunity and there is the possibility that they can still be hit by the same projectile, we should find commonality here.

That being said, GhostGaming (@GhostGamingg) has shown in some of his clips where AA missiles are clearly ignoring the flares after the missile was fired and the helicopter was still hit. Now, one thing I also noticed that quite consistently when this would occur on his clips, the helicopter took no damage. The content creator does not call this out but I am sure he saw it.

This is when the missile strikes the heli https://youtu.be/nes8Naawqno?t=971 but if you back it up, you can see where an enemy was locking, then locked and fired the missile. You will also see GhostGaming use flares but was still struck by the missile. Look for the screen shake. However, he took no damage. The damage that was inflicted was due to him slamming the helicopter to the ground to get below radar and below line of sight. Maybe this was a near-miss?

Another case of flaring and still being hit.  https://youtu.be/pG1JSSZs_NY?t=46

A wild one where he flares but the missile travels through the metal frame tower and still hits the helicopter but does no damage. https://youtu.be/pG1JSSZs_NY?t=476

Here https://youtu.be/nes8Naawqno?t=996 it looks like an airbust on a flare. https://youtu.be/nes8Naawqno?t=1017 is too close to tell.

A link to another thread addressing this issue with video recording.  Lock-On Missiles Ignore Flares | EA Forums - 13402221

So maybe this shows a broader problem instead of just the AA or IGLA where the problem feels more prevalent. Just my thoughts.

If you wanna take away a countermeasure and if AA is so bugged atm then disable flying as well until its fixed. Not like flying adds anything to the game anyways outside of selfish gameplay.

I wish this magical going through flares happens when I use the IGLA. Can't be that common considering the hundreds of rockets I've fired have never ignored flares.

at least it seems somethings works gainst the flairbusting, hight hopping airboys. The AA is already so underpowered, lockons broken by simply descending, fly miles off the map en reload the flairs and simply come back and destroy the tanks with way OP rockets etc. So now it's getting harder and it needs to be fixed? How pettyfull.

IGLA has ignored my countermeasures dozens of times, and until they fix this, I can't and don't want to play this broken game.

  • I agree with every point made in the post. I continue to be hit repeatedly through flares every day multiple times a day. As said in the post you have already acknowledged a bug involving flares. While other issues may have been resolved with how AA missiles interact with flares, Igla's ignore them entirely. Until you resolve the bug with the Igla it should be removed from the game and added back only when the issue is resolved.

The difference is that I’m asking for something to be removed because it’s bugged and not functioning as intended.

You think that aircraft are too strong and need more counters, despite there already being plenty of ways to deal with them.

    That’s a balance discussion.

This isn’t. The developers have already confirmed that AA missiles can ignore flares. My issue isn’t dying to an IGLA if I make a mistake and get punished for it. My issue is dying after using the correct counterplay and having the game ignore it.
