EA APP IS GARBAGE

EA, please fix your garbage app or stop making users use it. The number of technical issues this app faces is just a joke at this point. My whole weekend has been ruined trying to fix the app that you guys make users use so that they can play games that they paid for.  The app doesn't run well at all keeps crashing, and for me personally won't even open. I reinstalled it about 50 times, trying different hard drives and diffrent google account to try and install with. Either make a working launcher app like Epic Games and Steam, or stop forcing consumers to use the launcher.

    Hi Kova_Naz1357

I get why you’re frustrated. When a launcher prevents you from accessing games you’ve paid for, that’s not acceptable -- and spending an entire weekend troubleshooting only makes it worse.

That said, shouting at the platform doesn’t actually help us fix your issue. What does help is narrowing down exactly what’s breaking so we can either get you a workaround or escalate a reproducible problem to the team that owns the EA app.

A few important clarifications up front:

    • The EA app is required for (nearly) all (depending on launcher) EA PC titles. That isn’t changing in the short term.
    • Reinstalling dozens of times and swapping Google accounts(?) won’t help if the underlying issue is a corrupted cache, permissions, or a service conflict.
    • “It’s garbage” doesn’t give us anything actionable to work with -- but crashes and failure-to-launch are things we can dig into.

If you actually want to try to get this resolved, here’s what we need:

    1. Your OS and version (Windows 10/11, fully updated or not).
    2. Whether the app crashes immediately or fails silently.
    3. Any error codes or crash reports generated.
    4. Whether you’ve already cleared the EA app cache and repaired the Microsoft Visual C++ redistributables.
    5. Whether any antivirus, VPN, or overlay software is running.

If you’re not interested in troubleshooting, that’s your choice, and we’ll close the thread here. If you do want help, we, and the community, are ready to work with you -- many players with similar issues have gotten the app running once the specific failure point was identified.

Your frustration is understandable, but let’s channel it into something that actually gets your games playable again.

  • I completely understand, and I want to apologize for my outburst. It was uncalled for and completely out of character for me.

    1. I'm currently running Windows 10,and even though I know new updates aren't coming out for it, I'm on the latest version( latest one released)
    2. When double-clicking the EA app or running it in administrator mode, it opens up for a second or so, then when I hover over it with my mouse the loading icon appears, and it crashes/closes, but I can still see it's active on the bottom right side of my screen, where it shows the active apps running. But when I hover over it the icon instantly disappears from the bottom of the screen.
    3. There are no error codes generated or crash reports. I have had trouble with them in the past, but this issue is different from any that I've encountered.
    4. I can't clear the EA cache since the app doesn't open or let me log into it, I have cleared the cache on my computer tho using Disk Cleanup. But as im writing this Im currently trying to repair the  Microsoft Visual C++ redistributables
    5. And no there are no VPNs running on my computer and no overlays of any kind.

Once again, sorry for the outburst and thank you for your help I will do my best to update you on any fixes I find. Thanks again.

I just updated my computer to run the latest version of Windows 11 just to make sure everything was up to date and it's still doing the same thing. EA opens up for a second or so, then closes instantly.

Thanks for the update -- and no worries on the earlier tone. What matters is that we now have clear, reproducible behaviour to work from.

Given that the app briefly launches, then silently shuts down with no error output (even after a Windows 11 upgrade), the most likely cause at this point is a corrupted install or leftover files that a standard uninstall/reinstall won’t touch.

Let’s tackle this in two deliberate passes.

Step 1: Repair the EA app (fastest, least disruptive)

Before doing a full wipe, try a repair using the latest installer, as outlined in this guide: [INFO/GUIDE] How to repair the EA app for Windows

    Steps:

    1. Download the EA app installer fresh from the official EA site.
    2. Run the installer.
    3. When prompted, choose Repair.
    4. Click Yes when Windows asks for permission and let the process complete.
    5. Reboot and test the app.

If the app still closes immediately, move on to Step 2.

Step 2: Clean uninstall (removes leftover files standard uninstall misses)

If repair doesn’t resolve it, follow the clean uninstall process in this guide: [INFO/GUIDE] How to uninstall the EA app and remove leftover files

    Why this matters:
The default Windows uninstaller often leaves behind registry entries and cached files that can continue to break the app even after a reinstall.

    Summary of the process:

    1. Use Revo Uninstaller (Free version is sufficient).
    2. Uninstall the EA app and allow the default uninstaller to finish.
    3. Run an Advanced scan when prompted.
    4. Delete all leftover registry entries and remaining files/folders.
    5. Restart your PC.
    6. Download and install the EA app again from the official site.

You’ve already ruled out OS versioning, updates, VPNs, and overlays. At this point, the goal is to either fully clear corrupted remnants or confirm that something deeper is interfering during startup.

Let us know which step changes the behaviour (if any) -- that detail is critical for determining the next escalation path.

Here is what I found: I tried the repair feature, and it didn't work. It ran the whole way through and even restarted my PC. Then I went to the link you sent me and tried the Revo Uninstaller method. I took all the steps it recommended, and that still didn’t work.

Feeling a bit frustrated, I started finagling with the properties of the app. One setting said, “Always run in administrator mode,” or something like that, and that still didn’t help. However, after several attempts to run the app—with it closing each time—a prompt popped up. I assume it was the Windows Troubleshooting Assistant. I clicked that the app wasn’t working and gave it permission to scan my computer for the problem and find a solution. It ran for about a minute and then asked, “Do you want us to apply the recommended configuration for your computer?” I said “Yes.” It then ran the app, and now all features are working.

However, if I close the app and restart my computer, it breaks again, and I have to repeat the entire process.

Thanks for the detailed update -- that’s actually a really important find.

The fact that Windows Troubleshooting can make the EA app work tells us the install itself is fine. What’s happening is that Windows is temporarily applying a compatibility or execution setting that allows the app to launch, but that change isn’t persisting after a reboot.

Let’s try to lock that fix in manually.

Step 1: Force the compatibility settings

    1. Right-click the EA app shortcut → Properties
    2. Go to the Compatibility tab
    3. Enable:
      • Run this program in compatibility mode for: Windows 8
      • Disable fullscreen optimizations
      • Override high DPI scaling behavior → set to Application
    4. Click Change settings for all users
      • Also enable Run this program as an administrator
    5. Apply, reboot, and test

Step 2: Check the EA Background Service

Since the app breaks again after restarting:

    1. Press Win + R → type services.msc
    2. Locate EA Background Service
    3. Set Startup type to Automatic and confirm it’s Running
    4. Reboot and test

If the app still only works after running the Windows Troubleshooter, that suggests Windows is applying a session-only compatibility override. At that point, we’ll want to look at system-level data.

    Step 3: Grab a DxDiag

Please generate a DxDiag and share it here:

    1. Press Win + R
    2. Type dxdiag and press Enter
    3. Let it finish loading
    4. Click Save All Information
    5. Attach the saved file to your reply

That will let us check driver versions, system components, and anything that might explain why Windows needs to intervene for the app to run correctly.

You’ve done a great job narrowing this down. Let us know what changes after the compatibility and service checks -- and attach the DxDiag so we can take the next step based on the data.

I have followed all the steps, and it keeps crashing, and only working with the trouble shooter app. Here is the file you asked for once again, thank you!

    Kova_Naz1357 Thanks!

At this point, we’ve ruled out the install itself, the OS version, drivers, and standard compatibility settings. Since the app can run when Windows intervenes, the remaining variable is the Windows user profile.

As a final test, I’d recommend creating a new local Windows admin account and trying to launch the EA app from there:

    1. Go to Settings → Accounts → Other users
    2. Add a new local account
    3. Set it as an Administrator
    4. Sign into that new account
    5. Install and launch the EA app

If the app works normally on a fresh admin account, that confirms something specific to your original Windows profile (permissions, cached policies, background hooks) is blocking the app from launching correctly.

If it doesn’t work there either, then we’ve exhausted the reasonable troubleshooting paths available here.

    Let us know the result.
