Unable to launch FC 26 on PC - sign in error

I was playing FC 26 for weeks without any issues. After the latest update the game was lagging and stuttering while playing seasons so I uninstalled the game and reinstalled it to see if it would work fine.

After the reinstallation I cannot seem to get the game to launch. The loading screen appears and then there's a sign in modal that appears saying "Sign in with your EA account to activate FC 26 on this computer" (refer attached image).This should not happen as I am already signed into the EA app. If I try signing in again, it says "We've noticed your computer is currently offline". 

Has anyone else faced this issue?
