It could be automatic for infant and toddler but in the case of child/teen, the gameplay could be about building these relationships. Teens might be too old for that and could react negatively.
If the biological parent divorce again then these relationships will fall apart.

Same idea for adoptive family when parents died with EP17 Life & Death and the children moved in a new household.

Visiting rights for divorced or separated parents...this could be connected to the police department in game.
It would be fitting to add the law career for court orders when a parent doesn't obey the rules.
Kids can live with the parent that has left the household on weekends or for a full Sim week...out of the month.
Edit: anyone looking for realistic gameplay...This could get very real.
Battle for the child...full custody no visitation rights. This could go in the favor of the mother or father. There are a lot of single parents in the world. 🤕🙂
