Simply Ask a Vampire to turn you. Same for Werewolves.
For other occult Sims. To become a Spellcaster, travel to the Magic Realm and find one of the sages when you arrive. They are always walking around the building. They will need you to find the floating purple motes around the area for them to perform the ritual to transform your Sim into a Spellcaster.
To become a Mermaid you need to consume mermaidic kelp which you can purchase with reward points or find when collecting or fishing or cave exploring.
All fair points, but I agree that it would be nice if you could swap the Sim type in CAS - even if only in full edit mode / initial household setup.
- @PipMenace You can do these things in initial household setup by choosing occult Sims.
- @simsplayer818 But you can't change it once they're started. If you set a Sim up - or download one from the library, I suppose - and then say, "oh but I want to make them a mermaid" you have to either start over or go through the gameplay route, which can take a while.

You just need some Mermadic kelp. It is already explained how to get it in this thread. The easiest is with reward points.
I enjoy the challenge of a Sim choosing to become an occult or becoming one by accident or misadventure. It becomes part of my games lore.
So I have 2 Spellcasters as examples, one I forgot to create as a Spellcaster so she consumed motes and sought the sages to become a Spellcaster before becoming obsessed with power and dark magic, like the motes have corrupted her. My other Spellcaster, Aurora is a wiccan who was created as a Spellcaster and only carries out good magic and never messes about with motes or duelling. She has birds, rabbits and foxes on her lot and sells flowers and homemade remedies and preserves. She doesn't use a wand or a broom or dark magic familiars.
It was quite a fun aspect to the pack when Pandora ate a bad mote, turned to the dark side and started duelling and hexing everyone from the postman to the shop keeper.
It was the same with mermaids, like what happens if I eat this fruit? Yikes...where did this shiny blue tail come from!? Quick, someone chuck me in a paddling pool!
For me it makes my characters a bit more interesting.
I can't speak to Vampires or Werewolves as I'm too squeamish to add those packs. But I can certainly see how that could also be entertaining getting suddenly transformed.
- @jpkarlsen And that’s fine when that’s the story I want to play - especially starting young, and sending them to search the cave throughout teenage years so there’s a good chance they’ll have found the kelp while still teen or young adult. But if the story you wanted to play is that they’re a born mermaid, for example, it would just be nice to be able to switch it in CAS if for whatever reason they weren’t created that way. Even if it’s only in full edit mode / initial household creation. That’s all the point of this thread is - not that there’s no possible workaround, but that it would be nice if occult was a setting in CAS rather than an unchangeable starting point.
Or what if you download a Sim from the gallery, and then go “shoot, they’re a werewolf. I just wanted a normal Sim.” Sure, you can play out the story of looking for a cure - but maybe that wasn’t the story you wanted to play with that Sim. 🤷🏼♀️ - PugLove8883 years agoHero (Retired)
@PipMenace , I forget to do this more often than I would like to admit! 🤦♀️😅 I also often tend to forget to marry my 2 Sims in CAS! It is such a pain! 😓
What if I want them to become a vampire or a wherewolf like after the sim is already made?
