Colour themes for households?

I usually have color-codes per-sim. I play legacy style, so when their born and age into a toddler, I pick a "favorite color" based on a clothing item that they were wearing when they first aged out of the baby stage (from the randomized clothing.) Then I make their outfits and rooms feature their "favorite color."

For the style of the house, I try to be a bit different for each household, while sticking to a theme. As for the character's themselves, I actually go along the same line as @keenow and color-code their outfits. Sometimes keeping to a theme in a household too, but not rigidly. ;)

For example, I put together a collage of twin sisters here that I've completely redone their clothing just today.
Adrienne Goth; purple and yellow, Ashleigh Goth; red and black. It's in this order:
Everyday, Formal, Athletic, Party, Swimwear, Hot Weather, Cold Weather.
(I skipped sleepwear since it's very basic for all sims)

@keenow I didn't even think of paying attention to the colours they age up in. I will be now though, Thankyou.

I sometimes dress families in similar aesthetics. I’ve done red and black, more goth looks, pastel seaside prepsters, all white, and sometimes bright vibrant eclectic looks. It’s cool to see them out on the town and be able to know who’s who.

I have a color theme for a sim. Not for a household. I don't know why I just think it is cute and... meaningful? I guess.

As for houses I don't really care and just do what I like and what I think suits that household. No color theme for a whole house though.

All my Sims have a favorite color as well. Sometimes I just choose the color based on how they look, their traits/aspirations or sometimes I just pick a color I like. Most of the time this color is carried out to at least their bedroom and/or any personal space they may have in the home. But sometimes I also use this color throughout the home's interior, exterior and landscaping. Normally this happens only with a single Sim though. Once they have children or marry, it changes for the home's interior at least to compensate for the new Sims' color preference.

Depending on the Sims' personality, especially when maturing from child/teen/YA, their personal color might change over time. For instance, a toddler might be stuck with the color their parents prefer until they mature to a child and decide they like the color yellow, and might change again to black/red or black/purple, etc. as a teen if they're rebellious/goth or will be a vampire. Sometimes they'll still stick with yellow when not in dark mode though if a vampire. It just depends...

Cool! Me too! Not every household, but some like the Goths mostly black and some reds. The Gold household I dress them all in gold looking outfits. :)

I also fall under the colour theme concept lol. It always starts from toddler age and I keep that as their favorite colour and try to incorporate it into their rooms and then later on their future homes.

I find it hard to break out of that mold though as sometimes I'm like uh.... They don't always have to wear their "favorite" colour do they? XD

I don't use color themes rigidly, but I do give each of my sims a fave color, style and material, and whenever I remember to i will use their preferences when decorating or dressing them. i normally forget about it though, as I need to look it up in my outside the game notes.

My intention was also to create some cool challenges when 2 sims with different favorites move together and need to blend. Luckily I also have a system for how important this is to each sim, and normally only one of a couple will care a lot :)
