glitches and ram

Okay so for the past month and a half ive been having problems playing sims 4. When I play there are times where my sims will go where there suppose to but will stand there forever before doing what there suppose to be doing... also there are times ill be on pause and ill go hit play and it wont play... it doesent crash or anything it just wont switch between pause and play or it takes forever to do so now this does tend to happen sometimes when ive been on the game sitting for quite awhile because im doing other things but before it was doing it even if i was on the game for 10 mins, and i still think it does it sometimes not even that long after playing but im not for sure... now I do have a lot of mods/cc and im pretty sure there is quite a few conflicts between different mods but thats the thing i dont know what are actual conflicts and what are just overides and what not. I used to be able to look at a conflict report from Bettre exceptions and delete one of the two files that are conflicting but now i can't do that for everything because when i do i then i end up getting errors with MCCC saying im missing required files or what not. also not sure if ive mentioned this or not but back in october right after the october 22 update was when it was the wort.... now it has gotten better due to me deletiung some files and what not but a couple weeks ago i did a 50/50 and i was able to clear all files but then when i finally put everything back in my mods folder i was felling like i was still having problems just not as bad as before....

Okay onto possible problem 2.... So i got this computer 3 months ago brand new from best buy and it comes with 16 gb (really 15.1gb) of ram and like i said above i do have a lot of mods/cc but all i have is sims 4, sims 4 get to work, and sims 4 holiday celebration, but i plan on getting more sims 4 packs soon and more mods/cc but with just what i have now it takes up anywhere from close to 5 gb - over 8gb of ram to run my game and overall with everything else running im using anywhere from 85-95% of my ram and im afraid that once i buy more packs and get more mods/cc im going to be at 0 ram available... now i did read somewhere that the amount of ram ur sims 4 game takes should never go over 10gb no matter if u have every pack and u got tons of mods/cc otherwise u have a glitch or something, and im not there yet but thats exactly what im also afraid of is once i get these other packs and stuff im going to hit over 10gb of ram just for sims 4.... So what do you think I should do? i rather not upgrade to 32 gb of ram but if i have to i will, but i wasted to see what the experts think so thats why im writing this up to see what i can do to fix my game and not have my computer run out of ram?

  • jtk0291  If Sims 4 is using 8 GB RAM but your system is using 95% of its installed memory, then the problem is not really the game but rather everything else you're running alongside it.  How much memory is in use five minutes after you restart the system, with nothing running except the Task Manager?  Please test and let me know.

Adding more packs doesn't always increase Sims 4's memory use.  It depends on which pack, for example most stuff packs have no discernible effect on RAM use, and Get to Work has a much smaller impact than Cats & Dogs.  But I would guess most of the impact you're seeing is from your mods, unless you happen to have a single save you've played for hundreds of hours.  It takes a long time for the game to use that much RAM under normal circumstances.

For the in-game issues, please let me know what happens with no mods or custom content present, as in, move the Mods folder to the desktop and delete localthumbcache.package.  You don't need to save your progress, and probably don't want to given all the missing objects, but it's important to separate out the effects of mods and cc from anything else that might be happening.  Please also let me know how much memory Sims 4 uses with the Mods folder removed.

  • K I’ll have to test some things later when I’m on my computer but off the top of my head I’m pretty sure it’s 6-7gb and if I remember correctly about 40% maybe a percentage or two less of my memory is being used  with just task manager open but I do have the ea app and discord not open but running in the background along with overwolf and a bunch of other things not open but running in the background ik discord is the biggest memory thing when I only have the task manager open and nothing else…

yea im pretty sure the next two packs I’ll be getting around Christmas is seasons and realm of magic, possibly more or less… ik most of the 8gb for example is mods and cc and im fairly certain I don’t have any broken mods but I have a a few if not more conflicting mods but again I don’t no, which mods are actually conflicting and one needs to be deletedand which our actual overrides or something else and are safe to ignore… and so the thing is when I load my main save which I believe I have over 100 hours on that is over 8 GB and 90 to 95% of my total memory is being used which just under half is non sims 4 for memory if I’m playing my second oldest save that is over 6 GB and I think that is I wanna say 85% of my memory being used with about half of that being non-Sims four stuff of memory, and then if I’m playing my newest save that’s a little over 4 1/2 GB and I know right around 75% of my memory is being used with just over half of that I think being non sims 4…..

with mods and CC removed the last time I did that which I wanna say was less than a week ago. I wanna say it was working pretty good so that’s why I do think it is mods CC related and might be my messed up graphic settings in the game and also in AMD adrenaline software, I believe it’s called. Like I said I think it’s conflicts with certain mod cc that I have problems with when it comes to mod/cc. but I will say that there have been many times where I removed my mods folder or took some mods out and put them on my desktop and played for a while and still saved the game since my Sims were able to make a bunch of progress in the game and I didn’t wanna have to do those things over again when I put the mods back in even though there were missing objects

  • also I will say I do always have HDR on  when I m on my computer but I think that only applies to Sims four but I’m not for sure. heres a ss of task manager a lil over 5 mins after starting up my computer without me clicking on anything

  • So i removed everything out of my mods folder and put it on the desktop except for resource.cfg, when i sttarted up sims it game me the incomplete game data warning or something so i did make a new save of my second oldest household, then quite the game, deleteted avatarchache and localthumbcache, repaired the game just in case and then started it back up and heres a ss of my task manager as soon as i load into the household without mods of my second oldest household which usually takes up 6-7gb with mods in the mods folder.... i also notice that sims 4 uses a high percentage of cpu which i think its been like that for awhile to i think

  • Usually i have twitch open when im playing my game and im watching one person but in that ss i dd not the one website that was open was this website.

  • i also did my main save which is usually just over 8gb and without mods it brought it down to just over 5gb so it does seem like mods/cc does add about 3gb of ram, as far as cpu % i did notice that it ran around 34% for just sims 4 no matter what save i used but also weirdly enough when i ran a virus scan on windows security it also used close to 95% percentage of my cpu just for that until towards the end of the scan and brought it to 100% total used and that was without having sims 4 open obviously so maybe its something with my computer or something idk?
