[IL] Swim faster at level 6 Fitness not happening

Not sure if this  is something that came with Island Living or is exclusive to Island Living, but very rarely do my Sims swim "faster"  after reaching level 6 in Fitness. Not game shattering, but not what I expect either.

Sim "can now Show Off Muscles to other Sims." Sim "can now swim even faster than before."

Except this Sim is now at level 10 with no change to her swimming ability. Still flailing her arms as if she were just learning to swim.

Observed in both my regular game - with and without mods - and in a vanilla test game.

  • Yes, it's IL. For me I do think there's a difference between level 5 and 6. Had to go out of the water and back in though

  • When we first got IL there was a noticeable difference in how fast sims swam between the lower levels of fitness and level 10. We get a notice at level 6, so I guess that's the change point. It was most noticeable if they had to swim a long distance - for instance if they were swimming to one of the IL deep water dive buoys to "Free Dive." At some point - long, long ago - this little feature seems to have disappeared. I sort of miss it. 😕

  • So you got me curious.

Cheated the fitness level up on two Sims. One is now Level 4, the other is level 8.

Then I let them swim somewhere together. The one with level 8 was way faster.

  • Their speed does change, it's the fastest speed that's missing. Although occasionally I see it. I vaguely remember something about sims being able swim as fast as a mermaid. But... 🤷‍♀️

I remember there being a really fast swim speed, but… I seldom see it anymore. Just often enough to make me wonder what happened. Or what triggers it?  It’s one of those “Well, huh?” things. I keep wondering if it’s a trait or moodlet thing? But, don’t know. I do remember it.

  • Both these Sims have level 10 Fitness.

This one is using her arms and legs to swim faster.

This one is just flailing her arms and is not swimming faster.

The main difference is that I'm playing the one who isn't swimming faster.
