The Problems with the Crimson Universal Melee Pack and the Metal Maiden
I want to talk about the Metal Maiden in the Crimson Universal Melee Pack, because I think there are several problems with how this heirloom is designed and how it compares to the other options in the pack. I’m not making this post simply because I personally dislike the Metal Maiden. I think there are some genuine issues here that are worth discussing, especially considering that this is a premium random pack where every possible result is supposed to have comparable value. First, the Metal Maiden feels unfinished compared to the other heirlooms. The Metal Maiden doesn’t have a recolor option, and it doesn’t have an upgrade path either. Even the Serpent’s Sting has an upgrade option. On top of that, the Metal Maiden only has three inspection animations. I think this is a pretty big problem when the item is part of a random pack. If I spend the same amount of money as someone else, why does one person get an heirloom with multiple animations, customization and upgrade options, while another person gets one with significantly less content? This also creates a very specific kind of frustration for players. When you receive something randomly, you’re naturally going to compare it with the other possible rewards. If you then see that the item you received has fewer features than the alternatives, the disappointment becomes much stronger. It’s not just “I don’t like this item”; it becomes “I got the one that has less.” That’s basically the psychology of loss aversion. People tend to feel the loss of something they could have had more strongly than they appreciate what they actually received. I know that some players don’t like Sky Piercer or Serpent’s Sting either. That’s completely fair. But at least those heirlooms feel like fully developed options with their own animations and customization. The Metal Maiden doesn’t feel that way. It feels like the least rewarding outcome in the pool. The second issue is how the Metal Maiden is perceived by the Apex community. Obviously, there are people who genuinely like it. I’m not trying to say that nobody should like it. But it’s also hard to deny that a very large part of the community dislikes it, and the design has become a constant source of jokes. One of the most common jokes is comparing the Metal Maiden to an adult toy. That might be funny to some people, but it also means that players who actually own the heirloom can get mocked simply for using it. And this is where the age demographic of Apex becomes relevant. Apex has a very broad player base, including a lot of younger players. When a cosmetic becomes heavily associated with sexual jokes, that association doesn’t really stay limited to adults. It becomes part of the general community’s perception of the item. Recently, I’ve also seen another joke going around about using the Metal Maiden on Lifeline or Seer to supposedly get “bonus damage.” I didn’t understand the joke at first. Then I realized that it was because both characters are Black. I don’t believe Respawn intentionally designed the Metal Maiden around any of this, and I’m not saying that every person making these jokes has malicious intentions. But at the end of the day, this is still what some owners of the Metal Maiden have to deal with. And I have to ask: Is that really fair to the people who received it? They didn’t choose to get this heirloom. They opened a random pack and got one of the possible rewards. Now they’re stuck with an heirloom that has fewer customization options, fewer inspections, and a reputation that makes it one of the easiest heirlooms in the game to make fun of. That doesn’t feel great. The third issue is how the Metal Maiden could actually be improved. This is the part where I don’t just want to complain. I actually have a suggestion. The Metal Maiden is clearly inspired by the Heat Rod used by the Gundam Epyon from Mobile Suit Gundam Wing. For people who haven’t seen Gundam Wing, the original design is actually pretty interesting. The Heat Rod isn’t just a random whip attached to the Gundam. It’s built into a small shield mounted on the Epyon’s arm, and the whip is stored inside the shield and deployed when needed. I understand why someone who has never seen Gundam might look at it and think, “Why does this shield have a giant whip sticking out of it?” Without the original context, it is definitely a strange design. But that’s also why I think the Metal Maiden could have been designed much better. The interesting part is that the Metal Maiden already has an inspection animation where the whip retracts. So Respawn clearly knows that the whip can be stored inside the weapon. Why not build the entire design around that idea? Instead of having the Metal Maiden constantly look like a whip, it could be redesigned as a compact shield-like melee weapon, with the whip stored inside it. Then the whip would only extend when attacking. When idle, it could look like a mechanical shield. During a melee attack, the whip could rapidly extend from the shield. Heavy attacks could have a more dramatic deployment animation. Inspections could show the mechanism opening, extending and retracting the whip. The weapon could completely retract after the attack, returning to its shield form. I think that would make the Metal Maiden much more interesting. It would also make the Gundam inspiration much clearer. People who know the original design would immediately understand what it is, while people who don’t know Gundam would simply see a unique mechanical melee weapon rather than a giant whip. Most importantly, it could give the Metal Maiden an identity that isn’t just “the whip everyone makes jokes about.” I’m not asking Respawn to simply give everyone a different heirloom. I would much rather see the Metal Maiden itself improved. At the very least, I think it deserves more inspection animations, a recolor or upgrade option, better deployment and retraction animations, and a design that makes better use of the shield and Heat Rod concept. I understand that random rewards mean you won’t always get the item you want. That’s not really my complaint. My problem is that the different outcomes don’t feel equally developed. If players are paying the same price for a random chance at these heirlooms, then each possible reward should feel like it received a similar level of care and attention. I hope Respawn can take another look at the Metal Maiden instead of simply treating it as a finished product. I’m sure there are people who love it, and that’s completely fine. I’m not asking for it to be removed or replaced. I just think it has a lot of potential to be much better than it currently is.As Usual, Nothing But Cheaters
Just played an hour in pubs and I swear, every other player there is a *@*#$# cheater with aimbot/wallhack, etc. Such a great game so totally ruined by impotent hacks and cheaters. For god's sake, EA, don't just hardware ban a few players, ban every cheater caught more than once!52Views2likes1CommentBots in trios!?!
I have experienced and read that in lower level games ea is putting bots in to help the play. It is a bit annoying becuase there is a game called bot royal if a player want to play with bots, just saying. The actual problem is the bots drop with guns and out of no where. It is impossible to get a gun and defend against 3 armed all be it foolish opponents. Keep the bots out of trios please!!!!SleekBeetle2 days agoRising Novice32Views2likes4CommentsI want the significantly reduced weapon options to be brought back.
They nerfed Energy Ammo so much that it became unusable, and the R-99 was also nerfed, which has significantly reduced the number of viable weapon choices. If the goal of this update was to increase the variety of weapon choices, then instead of nerfing the R-99 and Energy Ammo, I would have preferred them to buff other close-range weapons or assault rifles so that players could have more strategic ways to fight.Ultimately, the current weapon meta has just resulted in fewer close-range weapon options, with weapons like the Prowler SMG dominating the game.Furthermore, the reduced amount of naturally spawned loot has made early-game fights less interesting and less enjoyable.I preferred the Season 29 meta.I don't really understand what this update is trying to change.Rongpoteto242 days agoRising Novice26Views0likes0CommentsWorlds Edge
I love the christmasy look you added to Worlds Edge... but it doesn't work. The map really needs to be lit up with daylight, not twilight. And E-district needs night time ambience. the textures don't work in day light as they look washed out. Oh, and I almost forgot... Axle needs to go...MrGreenWithAGun2 days agoSeasoned Ace12Views1like0CommentsNew cheat on duets?
The pattern is the same – solo pathinder, without teammates, playing cautiously until the last team is dead, then destroying them with aimbot to earn win streak badges on new accounts. But if he kills you early and you report him, he either kicks you out or leaves, changes his nickname, and starts a new game. What the **bleep** is this and when will you do something about it?vVv_Bjoergen_vVv2 days agoSeasoned Ace32Views0likes2CommentsChange WATTSON action key
Game-ruining mechanic. Wattson has the press direction down option to pick up or remove a node, fine, good. But she also has the option to press square(/action key) to remove them. This is problematic, as trying to reload your gun you end up not reloading and removing a vital node, having a double vulnerable result. Similarly if you're trying to open or close a door, you now don't know if you might reload, remove node, or open or shut door. This is too problematic in the middle of the fight, even sometimes when simply in the nodes and trying to reload. Doesn't need multiple buttons for the same thing, should be removed.19Views1like1CommentReturn RE45 to original state
Don't mind it being an energy gun, and sure you don't have a 'charge up pistol', but good lord it's absolutely rubbish. needing a whole second charge before shooting you're already dead before it's fired its first shot. And unless you're using aim-hacks there's no way you're going to be useful with it. And remove the burst fire. At the very minimum, remove the charge up. If you're that desperate to keep a nonsense mechanic, keep the chargup but leave it fully auto with minimal recoil.21Views2likes3CommentsBloodhound Ult needs buff
shouldn't deactive because of ring should be usable outside of ring enhance the 'trails' - barely noticeable at all, practically useless maybe Bloodhound should maintain the black and white (or lowered saturation) of background with highlighted enemies damage should not remove cloak, it should just cause momentary glitchy flash reveal Other than that still experiencing the usual nonsense that shooting an enemy point black when cloaked they'll then turn around and kill you first with instant death shooting.9Views0likes0CommentsLegend Bans
I request that legend bans not be introduced to ranked matches. The legend ban system would not only reduce play efficiency per match but also increase device load. Even if this is something you desperately want to implement, now is simply not the time. Please choose the right timing, especially given that publisher resources are being diverted to other areas like AI, and maintaining 200,000 concurrent Steam players has become difficult since Season 29. Apex is a free-to-play game and a Battle Royale title that requires 60 players per match, meaning it relies heavily on player population in a way other games do not. Instead of adding new features, I ask that the developers focus their efforts on core improvements such as balance adjustments and matchmaking accuracy.Akipekopeko3 days agoSeasoned Veteran24Views0likes0CommentsHow many packs?
Hello EA developers and fellow readers, I am currently trying to gauge how many Apex legend packs I have bought and opened, but all of the ways of finding out are incredibly tedious and require me to dig through my purchase history on Xbox. If there is a way, could you tell me how or just add a tracker in the stats page for your account that would be lovely. Thank you for your time.
