I've been playing Apex Legends since drop, well before heirlooms we're even a thing and have opened thousands of apex packs. Not once did I receive any original heirloom or heirloom shards, I'm just wondering if this is a glitch? I'm not mad I'm just at the point where I'm not even excited for them anymore. Thanks.

That guaranteed heirloom after opening 500 packs only resets when either:
This does not reset if you get the heirloom by completing a collection event that has a specific heirloom as the end goal, for example. Only if you're opening packs and get it that way, either through luck beforehand or just getting to that 500th pack point.
What about after you pay to get heirloom does it reset?

Does it reset after the season ends or something? Because I know I've opened well over 500 apex packs, even buying packs in the past to ensure it and still nothing.

there's a safety build into the game that every account will get heirloom shards latest after the 500th pack. You can read up on this here.
If you haven't received any yet, you just haven't opened that amount of packs yet.
