Switch/PS4 Unable To Add Friend

I recently set up our Switch with Apex and we've been unable to add each other as friends. It had me go through and create an EA account for my son, but I'm unable to find him when I search for that name on the PS4 or on PC. Not sure if related, but the EA account name doesn't show up anywhere in Apex, it's got him listed as his nickname from the Switch. Weird? Either way, we're not able to see friend requests. He can search for my account and send a request but I never see it on my end. Very frustrating. I'd be interested in unlinking the account I created for him and trying again, but that's not clear either as the link just sends me to generic forum page. Halp.

  • Chatted with EA about this today and they said it's because the account is underage.

To my understanding, if an account is underage:

    • Can still play Apex matches solo with randoms.
    • Cannot add friends and family to play with.

Seems backwards, but that's what they're going with, I guess.

  • Im having the same problem and the only thing I know is that two switches can friend each other but no one on other platforms.

  • @NEON5235 I hope that's not the case for too much longer! Found a few people online that said it "fixed itself" but I'm not sure what that means, why, or how long it will take.

I have the same issue with switch and Xbox. All I can see is Xbox players when I search on Xbox and on switch I see only switch players.

So the majority of Switch players are going to be underage kids wanting to play together.   EA is going to get a lot of hate if they’ve decided to restrict friends.  My 11 year old son and I have been looking forward to playing together and now we cannot. Lame.

  • Really lame. No way I'm letting my kid play with randoms by himself.

  • I've been having this same issue. Switch to PC friend requests trying to play with my little brother, friend requests just straight up aren't going through to either of us. Could have something to do with that age restriction you mentioned, but we don't get any info on it whatsoever.
