Switch/PS4 Unable To Add Friend

I recently set up our Switch with Apex and we've been unable to add each other as friends. It had me go through and create an EA account for my son, but I'm unable to find him when I search for that ...

    Chatted with EA about this today and they said it's because the account is underage.

    To my understanding, if an account is underage:

    • Can still play Apex matches solo with randoms.
    • Cannot add friends and family to play with.

    Seems backwards, but that's what they're going with, I guess.

So the majority of Switch players are going to be underage kids wanting to play together.   EA is going to get a lot of hate if they’ve decided to restrict friends.  My 11 year old son and I have been looking forward to playing together and now we cannot. Lame.

Really lame. No way I'm letting my kid play with randoms by himself.
