Friend was given a 7 day ban, which changed to a permaban, on a first offense

Unfortunately we can't help with bans here on the forums. Our terms of service team are the only ones with the power to look into these bans, and if they've decided that the ban was justified then I'm afraid there isn't much else we can recommend. Your friend can always file another dispute, but if they don't overturn the ban then it'll likely stay on his account.

The problem isnt that he was sanctioned period. Having a one week ban was accetpable, he did break the rules and we were all saying "hey maybe be more careful". The problem arises when the tos team can arbitrarily upgrade the 7 day to permanent, without any additional offenses, on a first time offense, and then refuse to revert it to a 7 day ban, all on a whim. This is the problem, and their message specifically stated "after making two investigations into your complaint, we will consider this matter closed". Ive seen other people say its after this that they automatically reject your complaints and appeals with an automated response, no matter how valid the complaint is. 

This is entirely an overreach issue, and the fact that he cant even call and talk to someone about it is fuel on the fire. Hes used all the resources the site gives him, he has done everything everyone reccomends, and now the only real solution is to make a new account and spend more money on the game that banned him (edit: if he even wants to continue playing).

 I know you guys here cannot do anything, different departments yadda yadda, i get it, but this is really not a good image for the tos team. Taking 70+ dollars away for a first time chat offense is really bad.

To be honest, the safest thing to do is just turn off voice chat and hide text chat, effectively disabling it. Doesn't matter that this is meant to be a Battlefield game.

If playing with others, use 3rd party comms.

As for what to do, doesn't seem like there is much that can be done. Your friend needs to decide if he still wants to support EA, or just go play something else.

bad behaviour is punished. its time people respected other people online. too much hate and disrespect going on. this should be a lesson to all.

MITSNAS​ ignoring the fact that the disrespect was started by another guy flaming the team, and the severe jump in the punishment severity on a whim really makes your comment seem disingenuous. He was handed a fair punishment for the violation. The punishment was changed after the fact because it seems someone on the tos team had an axe to grind and is acting unprofessionally. Defending this is not the hill to die on man. Come on.

Do childish things, be treated like a Child. EA is your new Mommy. The Goof's that make this stuff would not play it if their very lives depended on it. It's like a Cook refusing to eat what they make. It's a sign.

I think it is great that you are advocating for your friend but the bottom line is they chose to say what they said, they broke the rules and now they have to deal with the consequences of their actions.

Two wrongs do not make a thing right it is just exactly what it is, two wrongs.

One should never treat others badly in online gaming. 1. it is against the rules. 2. it is just not right and. 3 it can cost you your account etc.

Do not let others bait you and do not stoop to their level. Mute them if you can, ignore them, and report them.

Again, the punishment severity is the concern, not the punishment existing. If it was a 7 day ban, we wouldve just went along with it, i wouldnt have ever made this post, and he wouldve been salty and probably picked up the game more sparingly for a bit after the time passed, yknow? Like i said above, he did recieve the timed ban initially before it was just upgraded to a permaban with no stated reason for the escalation in severity. 

Really the only defining factor in this post being made is the upgrade to a permaban with no warning on a first offense. The soapbox stance really ignores that. I do understand what youre trying to say, and i agree to a point on the moderation itself, but its not the point of my post at all.

This is just my opinion but I don’t think he deserves a permanent ban but definitely should have been given at least 2 weeks to a month ban. Your friend isn’t innocent and one of the reasons why I hate competitive gaming these days. “Well they did it first” isn’t an excuse otherwise ANY ban could be defended using that logic aslong as you didn’t through the first stone.

The only reason I’d advocate to overturn it from permanent to a month or two is because these kind of perm bans need to be reserved for the real offenses like racism, multiple warnings, and threats for it to mean anything. Right now getting banned means nothing but bad luck 9 times out of 10.

as was stated by EA_QueenBee​ here on the forum we can not assist with bans. That has to be taken up with the ToS team. They decide if the ban is proper and also what type it will be. 

If they are now saying that the ban will be upheld and the decision is final then that is what it is. 

I know this feels bad and I feel for your friend but there is really nothing we can do here.
