You are correct; there have been a lot of updates, but it feels like these things should have already been fixed in testing. I have a lot of issues with the game, but here are a few things I would add to the wish list.
- Player runs. For example, I see a gap between the RB and CB. I have to press L1 AND flick the right stick in that direction or he will run directly into the CB's back. The fact that we have to use so many button combos on a limited controller doesn't help. There is a lot of button overlap and the game misinterprets what I want to do. A lot of the times, when I do this, it triggers the LW to run by mistake. Sometimes my ST goes on a standard run (listed above) and my CDM fails to execute at a skill move.
- Fouls need to be improved. I deliver a cross and my opponent heads the ball out of the box. My CB, rushes to head the ball back up field. His ST runs into my CB's legs, knocking him out of the air; this is a clear foul. Because of this my CB heads the ball back to my opponent's CM, who passes it to the ST, who just committed the foul. He's now running at the goal and I'm using my other CB to try and catch him. Another example is when my opponent is attacking. He does an L1 pass from his ST to his LW. His ST runs forward and smacks into my CB as I'm trying to jockey the LW. If I do anything, it will result in a penalty. How is this not impeding/obstruction?
- The player switching needs to to be improved. My opponent is on the attack and I'm using the CB to cover his ST while also using my CDM, with the second man press, to cover the ball carrier. The game switches me to the CDM and my CB runs away from the ST, leaving him completely open.
I'm no stranger when it comes to losing. Last week I lost a lot of games, but I still had so much fun. Why? Because it was great competition. In one game, I fought my way back from a 2 goal deficit before eventually losing. Another game was a real back and forth contest, with both of us trading the lead throughout the game. I have mentioned in the past that they could rework the reward system to favor participation over progression. This would encourage players to keep playing and improving.
I get upset at losing when it's a complete mismatch against absolutely, TOXIC sweats. I emphasize toxic because it's not just about being good at the game, but playing in a way to flex superiority. I'm talking about celebrating every goal in a 0-6 lead, time wasting to protect a 4-goal lead, doing useless skill moves, and general taunting (both in game and with post game messages).
I also get upset when it feels like I have no control over the result. I have multiple shots on target and only score 1 goal. I have done a decent job defending and my opponent (usually CPU) scores his only half-chance. I'm relentless in attack, but nothing is working. My players take forever to shoot the ball, which allows CBs to block or tackle. The GK gets the tiniest touch on the ball to send it wide. My CM is dribbling just fine until the CB begins running at him. Then all the sudden his touches turn into knock-on dribbles and he loses possession.
In closing, I want to highlight some of the positive aspects of the game. There are so many different game modes and ways to earn rewards. It's difficult to get bored. Tired of grinding division rivals? Play rush, which is a relaxing break (while also granting rewards). The live events offer chances to earn rewards without dropping rank in division rivals or dropping points in squad battles. For the most part, I still enjoy Career modes and Pro Clubs.
