Things we need in the future
Other than all the obvious bugs and patches needed, here are some things I’ve noticed that would greatly improve the overall experience.
1: NIGHT MODE, I’m sure this is tedious, and logistically could be semi difficult, but even if it’s a server based thing, if we had night mode it would be incredible. All of the spots that are poorly lit during the day from shadows, make it hard to get well lit clips. Adding a night mode would not only be fun, but it would be revolutionary for a skate game. Please add this in the future.
2: A MORE DEFINED STORYLINE, I think when people talk about the charm of your other incredible games, a lot of it is tied to the overall story, characters, and events. I know you’re working on it, and I do trust the process, but we need lore. Even other free to play games like Fortnite and Marvel Rivals have TONS of lore. We need more story, Easter eggs, and map additions to add to the overall feel of where we are. I love San Van, but it all feels like one big mystery, and I really hope you guys expand on it in an interesting and captivating way (hire me) [edit: email address removed]
3: MORE CALLBACKS TO THE OLD GAME, we need a coach frank skin/storyline, we need deer man of the dark woods, we need pro skaters involved in every season. I think giving us more references that don’t involve spending 40 DOLLARS on the dead space skin, would appeal to our nostalgia, while also embracing the new.
Another side note, we need more aspects of skate culture to appeal to real skaters. Skateboarding has never been more popular, it’s not just little kids playing this game, we need more culturally significant references to skate culture to keep us invested while also educating others who might not have known.
4: NO MORE VEE, in my heart of hearts, I’m hoping you find a clever way in the lore to explain her significance in the story. Maybe we’re in a simulation? Maybe we’re in a dream? That parts up to you guys, but it’s clear that high majority of people DREAD hearing her voice, so much to the point that most people have her muted completely. She’s bland, annoying, and half her dialogue sounds like it was written by that uncle who claims he used to be a sick skater back in the day. All that said, if you find a cool way to explain why she’s there other then just “coaching” us, then it can work. Otherwise it’s just bleh
5: COMMUNITY PARKS, I like the idea, but it’s not working. Nobody’s interested in it because it’s always blue and yellow, the builds aren’t exciting at all, and all we can add are drop items. If you want the community park format to work, let it be a server map where we can build our own parks like the old games. That would keep it interesting and allow people to be excited to join in on it. Or at the very LEAST, change the colors every once in a while, it makes me woozy.
6: ICONIC SPOTS, there’s so many famous skate spots around the world, and I know you added some spots that are odes to that, but I think very season adding some more famous spots like el Toro, Hollywood 16, etc, could be so exciting.
7: CHALLENGES, I’m sure you’re working on it, but we need more variety. I like the own the spot idea, but we also need S.K.A.T.E. (Like HORSE in basketball) that any player can start at any time like the own the spot challenges.
8: LEADERBOARDS AND STATS, we need a Guinness book of world records for skate, a history book if you will, that tracks all the greatest stats. This would keep the player base engaged overtime, and let the sweats feel accomplished.
9: COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT, your instagram is decently engaged with some videos, but I think adding spot challenges with actual winners and prizes would make us more inclined to really show out for the spot challenges you post on your Instagram. Get a bigger team so you can engage with more creators. It’s more important then you might think.
10: GIVE US AN APARTMENT, I know this might seem silly, but if you aren’t going to give us a good storyline, or any for that matter, then let us feel like a citizen. Give us a simple apartment that we can add furniture for, props, and even use stickers as posters. Give us a tv with a mini game, and a closet where you can change clothes. Similar to how GTA did it, I think this would make us feel more attached to the city, connected to our character, and like an actual citizen of San Van. This would be an absolute game changer truly.
Who knows if anyone will even read this, but this game is great. The gameplay overall is super smooth, the physics are pretty dialed, and the look of a lot of the clothes are really clean. If you keep listening and chipping away at all the issues over time, focusing on the priorities, me and many others will be playing this game for a decade plus. Keep at it devs, we believe in you🫶
