It's related to Google Play Services.
I just found a fix !!!
Cleaning cache, reinstalling play services... all of that stuff didn't work for me.
Logging a guest to the connect with my EA Sports account also failed.
But there is another option when you log as guest and then go to connection ==> import account
it allows you to select your saved EA accounts (I only have one)
It worked fine for me.

I never connected to EA before so I don't think that can work if you just used google play to save progress. Am I wrong?
I think you're right. I didn't have an EA account until this debacle, only Google Play, and when I try to reload using the EA account it defaults to start of the game with all of my progress gone. I've also noticed that when I dig into my Google Play games account it keeps automatically signing me out, but just for SWGOH, none of the other games use my Google Play account for
