Sniping is both too easy and irritating
Older battlefield titles did sniping so much better. I dont understand why it was changed so much.
There are a ton of problems that contribute to this. I will list them in decending order of importance
1 - The laser rangefinder should not auto zero your scope. Whoever thought this was a good idea is an idiot.
2 - There needs to be a suppression mechanic for snipers. Too often, I end up in sniper "battles" that are just people strafing side to side rapid, firing shots and hoping to get lucky. This type of sniping not fun in any way. BF3 probably had the best supression. BF4 had a little too much imo.
3 - Auto spotting should be removed or at the very least, limited to 100m.
4 - Scope sway shoud be dependent on position. Standing should have a lot, crouching should have less, prone should have very little. Moving should make your scope bob around like you are in an earthquake. Currently there is absolutely no reason to use a bipod which is kind of absurd. I own a real MRAD and can tell you that there is absoultely no way you could hit anything accurately from a standing position because it is just too long and heavy. This would also help to fix the **bleep** COD type sniping I mentioned above.
5 - The sweetspot range is a joke. It makes no logical sense and makes sniping too easy. It would be much better to just apply a better damage falloff curve that mirrors the reality of the calibers. 300NM shouldnt be doing 50% damage at 200m when it stays supersonic to over 2000m IRL. The current curve is way too steep. BF3 handled this best.
6 - There is way too much smoke on the maps. This is largely caused by mortars and unattatched ambient smoke. If something blows up there should be some smoke and dust, but the random floating mists and forever burning cars are irritating. Mortars should also be limited to ~10, more powerful, shots with no ability to resupply in order to reduce the spamming.
8 - There needs to be more choices in scopes. Who wants 15 red dot sights for a sniper rifle? Id rather have more options in actual rifle scopes. 12x for sure, possibly 16x, and more choices in reticle for every magnification.
7 - There are way too many bullet proof objects. Plywood will barely stop a pellet gun. Many of the miscelaneous peices of trash around the map are also bullet proof. How can a glass hookah stop a 300 Norma in its tracks? A 1/4 inch tree branch 3 feet in front of a targets head should have literally no effect on a bullet.
Extra - I would love to see scope glare removed. BC2 had some of the best sniping because you were able to hide in hard to see spots, like a real sniper. Some guns also appear to glitch sometimes and have no scope glare (Mini Scout with people who are not playing recon, primarily). Removing it completley would make this problem irrelevant.
Overarching problem : Hit registration is still bad. This effects every part of the game but is most acutely noticeable on snipers. Some games I hit everything Im shooting at, and others I cant hit anything that isnt standing completely still. I cannot tell you the amount of times I have popped up from behind cover, fired a round right through another snipers head, went back behind cover, and then was headshotted when they couldnt even see me anymore. Paradoxically, the better my ping is, the worse the hit reg seems to be. I know a lot of improvements have been made to this, but I ran into the above mentioned scenario at least 5 times yesterday.
