EA, Stop Ignoring Us: Xbox and PSN Accounts Stuck on Unrecoverable EA Profiles

This is a collective appeal on behalf of the many users who have, over the years, experienced the same recurring issue – and still have no solution. The problem is simple but severe:

Players lose access to their EA account, and as a result, they are unable to unlink it from their Xbox or PS profile. Without EA's help, they are permanently locked out of using EA services on Xbox/PS. And EA Support has failed to provide effective assistance.

We are not talking about isolated incidents. This is a widespread and years-old problem, affecting hundreds (if not thousands) of players. It continues to appear regularly in EA Forums, Reddit, Microsoft and Playstation support threads, and gaming communities. It’s time to acknowledge that this is not a user mistake – this is a systemic failure in account management and support policy.

The Problem

  • Xbox and Playstation profiles often become automatically linked to old EA accounts – sometimes accounts that are no longer accessible, deleted, or tied to an email that no longer exists.
  • Players cannot unlink the Xbox/PS profile from the EA account unless they verify the original EA account.
  • If the user has no access to the email or recovery methods (due to age, lost credentials, or deactivated accounts), EA support refuses to help.
  • Microsoft/Sony confirms they cannot unlink EA accounts on their end.
  • EA's stance is rigid: “No verification, no unlinking.” Even if the account is clearly inactive or the user is verified through Xbox/PS->Origin credentials.
  • Support tickets are often closed without action. Chats end with no resolution. Users are passed between departments, but nothing changes.

Recent Example (May 2025)

Just yesterday, I posted the following here on EA’s forums, and it summarizes the problem:

“I can't unlink my Xbox account from an old EA account that I don't have access to anymore. EA Support told me there’s nothing they can do. I just want to play EA games again, but I’m locked out of all online services because my Xbox is linked to a ghost account.”

This is not a one-off. It is one of many.

What Players Are Asking For

We are not asking for special treatment. We are asking for a realistic, user-focused solution to a well-known issue. Specifically:

  1. A process for unlinking Xbox or Playstation accounts when the original EA account cannot be recovered.
This could involve verifying identity via Xbox Live/PSN data, Xbox/PS account ownership, or linking proof.
  2. Better support escalation paths.
Not just canned responses and auto-closed tickets. Real human review for unresolved account access cases.
  3. Transparency on what can and cannot be done.
Many users are told “there’s nothing we can do” – while others manage to get unlinking done after dozens of failed attempts. The policy is inconsistent.

The Bigger Picture

Many affected users have:

  •  Lost access to EA Play/Game Pass benefits despite paying for them.
  •  Abandoned EA games completely because the account issues make playing impossible.
  •  Created entirely new Xbox/PSN accounts, losing years of progress and purchases.
  •  Spent hours or days dealing with EA support without a single result.

We are asking EA to take responsibility and implement system-level fixes. This is a trust issue. Players who lose access to their EA account should not be cut off from Xbox/PS games they legally own or subscribe to.

Supporting Evidence: Community Reports

DateSource & LinkSummary
May 16, 2025EA ForumUser unable to unlink Xbox from old EA account; EA Support states "nothing we can do".
April 2025Microsoft CommunityXbox Gamertag linked to an old/unknown EA account; EA will not unlink it, stating the account is deleted.
April 2022Microsoft CommunityEA refuses to unlink Xbox from deleted EA account; GDPR request ignored.
February 2021Reddit - r/XboxEA demands code sent to inactive email; user locked out despite valid Xbox account.
Early 2021Microsoft CommunityUser unable to unlink EA account; Microsoft confirms EA is sole authority.
November 2018Overclockers UK ForumPlayer locked to 10-year-old EA account; EA support unhelpful after multiple attempts.

And many more...

Final Call

EA, this is a growing trust and accessibility issue. Gamers should not be permanently blocked from their Xbox/Playstation content because of a policy that assumes email access is forever. Technology evolves. People change accounts. But support systems must evolve with that.

We urge you to:

  •     Recognize this as a longstanding issue.
  •     Commit to a workable solution for affected users.
  •     Respond to the community with clarity and action.

This isn’t just about one player. This is about hundreds of us, waiting for a fair resolution.

EA - in the name of all gamers - please fix this!

  • I’m in the same situation, and it’s beyond frustrating. My primary EA account is linked to an old email address that no longer exists, so I can’t receive the verification code to change the email or unlink my Xbox account. EA’s guide says, “If you decide to merge your accounts, get in touch with us,” so on a secondary account I created, I opened a case, provided all the details, and waited for a response.

Nothing. The chat queue showed “decades” left to speak to someone (jokingly, obviously), then the chat disappeared. If I hadn’t checked my case status later, I wouldn’t have even known they marked it as resolved, despite nothing being resolved at all.

It’s clear I’m not alone. There are many of us stuck in this loop with no guidance, no real help, and no way to access the games or services we’ve paid for. EA must acknowledge this problem and create a process for cases like ours.

Today was a good day. Logged in EA site > my cases > started chat > waited for like 30mins then queue went under +99 what? 30-60min later my case was solved.

How exactly was your case resolved? What did the support team ask you, and what did you explain to them? Would be super helpful if you could share a bit more about it.

  • Has anyone dealing with this actually spoken to a customer support representative? I haven’t been able to reach anyone with live chat for 2 weeks. I’m about to just contact my bank and show them these forums and lack of customer support and just get all my money back. My bank does not play with this type of stuff.

im giving them another week and if I can’t reach anyone with live chat I’m gonna just get my money back.

doesnt help that they keep closing my tickets before I can even speak to somebody. They really don’t want us buying bf6 it seems.

Wow, I had no idea this was a thing that other people were experiencing. Felt like I was on an island. No wonder they have not responded to my support ticket submissions and don't want to give customers a live chat option. Ignoring this issue will not make it go away. For months I've thought I did something wrong. This is an embarrassment from a company like this.

  • I am also dealing with this issue and find a lack support by EA incredibly frustrating.  My account was set up decades ago and EA says my Xbox account is linked to some @disabled.ea.com address. I hadn't played a game made by EA in years, but thought maybe I'd give Battlefield 6 a try. If there truly is no way to unlink this account to link my current Xbox account to my current EA account, then I definitely do not need to give any more money to EA to play their games. This is absurd. Do better EA.

  • Hey EA....

My Dad died and I didn't realize my EA ID was under his information... so I requested to have my XBOX account relinked to the new EA ID I made.

Can't be done because of "Policy" where they can only -deactivate- the deceased member's account, they can't change anything on it.

See -that's- the problem... I said something, otherwise I could of kept playing underneath a deceased family member's EA ID without a hitch, but the moment I asked to get the XBOX account relinked it's a problem, and the deceased EA ID finally got deactivated.

Essentially I'm being punished for wanting to swap my xbox account from my dead father's EA Id to my own, so that looks GREAT for your company.

They flat out don't care about their members at all it's blatantly obvious with these outdated insufficient systems. I created my EA account like 20 years ago no I wasn't 18 and lied about my birthday but I'll be damned before I make a whole new Xbox account to play EA games or spend money on them that's fine EA just don't take our money it's not like you're laying people off or anything... Maybe if you would listen to the players and put systems in that actually work you would make more from us!

This company is complete trash, we all can ever play another ea game again unless we make a whole new account and gamertag lol, it dont even make sense at this point anymore.  4+ hour chat wait times just to be kicked off and have to restart

I was having the same issue. My mother used her email with all my info when I was minor- now she’s in rehabilitation and I have no access to the email. They didn’t care at all.
