Could Not Avtivate Mass Effect 3 Error

Hi everybody. I just bought ME 3 on Steam.

I'm having trouble getting the game to run on my PC. Nothing I've tried so far has worked, even though I've tried just about everything. I saw that someone else on this forum had a similar problem that they managed to solve. This is my first EA game, so I don't have much experience with it, so i hope that you guys can help me too.

This is what i get when is try to launch the game.

TermohryG If you have completed all those steps, the next step is to find the key, chat with live support, and have them look it up. If it was purchased through Steam, you may not be able to find it unless you dig through the PC's registry. This error can be aggravating.

The error itself, though, basically says that the account you are logging in to doesn't match the account that bought it. That could be because of an account rename. It happens every so often. If all the steps listed did not work, the next step would be to find that key, contact live support, and see if it is, in fact, tied to the account you're using to log in if you're using one Steam account on both PCs.

EA_Shepard Thank for your reply. I renamed my account, to make sure that i only have one account, and i only have one. Yes, i bought the game on steam, and my account is connected to steam. I already deleted the game and everything ME3 or EA relatedd before, and also deleted temp files. What do you think what else sould i try to do?

TermohryG It's good that you got it to run. So it depends. The online access error isn't a hardware error; it is an account error. If you were logged into two different accounts, it would give you that error. Not because you switched machines.

It is possible that your laptop is reading the wrong account or the wrong license key in the registry. At that point, what you would have to do is try to clean out every ME file and temp file for the laptop, and then make sure you log in with the same EA account. If you are playing on Steam, go to EA.com and make sure under connections, you are using the same Steam account that you can connect to.

Sorry for the late reply EA_Shepard . I tried what you suggested, but unfortunately it didn't work.

However, there are some new developments: I downloaded ME3 onto my home PC as well, and it launched perfectly there after I installed EA. So the problem isn't between EA and Steam. Do you think it’s possible that for some reason I can’t get it to run on my laptop? I have an MSI Katana laptop.

TermohryG Hey, that sounds like your install is trying to load the license for a game associated with a separate key in the registry.

If you had two accounts, and you cannot gain access to it anymore, you would have to wipe everything Mass Effect related if the license steps did not work. It wants to activate a key to an account that doesn't own that key (not the game)

Have you gone through all the steps listed on the Unauthorized DLC Error Guide

It is not your error, but the same steps we would use to solve this error apply to you, too.

  • If you have any other ideas on how I can solve this problem, I’d really appreciate your help. If there’s anything else I can tell you to give you a clearer picture of my problem, just let me know.

Thanks for your reply DoctorDAM DoctorDAM I've already tried that trick, but unfortunately it didn't work for me for some reason. If I deleted the license file, it reinstalled itself; if I moved it, unfortunately nothing changed.

Thank you for your reply. I did have another account a long time ago, but unfortunately I lost it because the email address associated with it was deactivated. That’s why I don’t think that’s the problem, since the two accounts were never linked. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to recover that old account, so I bought the game again many years later.

  • Have you tried the move license folder trick?  Though this usually arises when a preexisting working game all of a sudden stops working.

One note: try just MOVING the license folder (say to desktop) instead of DELETING.  That way you can put it back if the fix doesn't work.

  • When you buy a game for the first time and try to run it, it installs EA launcher where you log in with your EA account and it will basically connect. Your error is telling you that there is a different account where you own Mass Effect 3. Possibly in your browser there is different account than in the EA app.
