An Open Letter to EA CEO and Directors
I beg of any EA staff that read this to pass this letter to higher ups. Everything I am writing about today cannot be solved by customer service staff because frankly, it's not up to you guys. You have to sit through all this and read all of these complaints and I am deeply sorry - I do not wish to direct any of my frustrations towards you. Andrew Wilson and Kofi Bruce however? Oh yes, they deserve to feel the fan's wrath and gain an understanding. Rachel A. Gonzalez, Jeffrey T. Huber, Talbott Roche, Richard A. Simonson, Luis A. Ubiñas, Heidi Ueberroth, Kofi Bruce, and Andrew Wilson; I desire to speak directly to you. The discussion about live service needs to end. Not every game can be CoD. Or FIFA. Or Apex. You and your shareholders have been near obsessive over turning single-player IPs into MMOs or multi-player live service IPs for more than a decade. The result of that is leaving your fans ( and profit generators, because that's all we are to you, right? ) with a sour taste in their mouth and a reluctance to spend money on your franchises. Not to mention many of us have a severe lack of trust in this company due to the blatant disregard of customer opinions. The fact that EA doesn't have an email address to contact when issues arise says it all. Got too much complaints in those inboxes, huh? Yeah, the solution is definitely to just remove that point of contact. Ignoring an issue makes it go away! I have to put this in the Dragon Age: The Veilguard forum simply because there is no general complaints page on this forum. But it is not just DA this has happened to. What on Earth is happening with The Sims franchise? Why, oh why, do the Directors and shareholders insist that live service is the only way forward? Has it never crossed your minds that perhaps, some people only like playing single player games? Some people like the concept of being able to play a game without internet connection being a requirement. Or, if you're like me, you do not like dealing with the harassment and abuse that ensues when playing these online games. I used to play CoD all the time, you know what happened? I was abused for being a girl. Experiences like that push you away from live service IPs, not towards them. Especially when those abusing you don't get banned by the platform despite all of the complaints I used to submit 10 years ago. Here's a snippet from the EA User Agreement: "When you access or use an EA Service, you agree that you will not: Interfere with or disrupt another player's use of an EA Service. This includes disrupting the normal flow of game play, chat or dialogue within an EA Service by, for example, using vulgar or harassing language, being abusive, excessive shouting (all caps), spamming, flooding or hitting the return key repeatedly. To enforce these rules, we may monitor your activity and remove any UGC. If you don’t follow these rules, we may remove your UGC, warn you, suspend you, ban you permanently or place other restrictions on your EA Account, games, or related services." Oddly enough, all of the men who message me sexually charged messages, tracked down other social medias and harassed me (at the age of 15, by the way), shouted sexist nonsense at me during a team death match, were not reprimanded for their behavior. They were not banned. Their accounts were still active. I was bullied and harassed out of the FPS/MMO community. You really think I want the lovely Dragon Age to join the likes of THEM?! These games did not do well because they don't have live service. The newest installment in the Dragon Age franchise failed because writers are no longer appreciated for all of the amazing concepts they create. Too 'controversial'. Too 'hard to connect with'. Too 'Woke'. The respect towards creative voices in this industry seems nonexistent and there is this weird reluctance to just... let writers do their jobs? The 'woke agenda' definitely did not hold back Larian Studios from success, in fact, it propelled them to the top and is expected to hold the place as the most popular RPG in history, surpassing even Skyrim with the ability to mod and add new maps/quests/ANYTHING to the game. Dragon Age could have easily been their direct competitor. Let me say that again, could have easily been their direct competitor. The fan base that have followed BioWare for over 15 years would be more than happy to do all the hype work and marketing for you, I myself have recommended the earlier games to others many times. That is called loyalty, and you only achieve this by earning your customer's trust. EA has gone out of their way to break that trust between company and customer on many occasions. Then have the audacity to question why the game didn't sell well? Seriously? Do you only read your stock prices and just stop there? Have you ever, genuinely, read a single review for this game? I didn't think so - because if you had you'd know that a lack of multiplayer is NOT why the game underperformed. Enough about that for now. Let's circle back round to The Sims, shall we? Why did Sims 4 not do very well? Oh yeah, because there's so many expansion packs that it would cost over $1,000 to own everything ( and good luck running your computer with all of that! ) and when the game was released it was incomplete. The most upsetting thing about the Sims franchise for me, is that it had such a vice grip on this niche of the gaming market. There was nothing else like it. Notice I said was? Sure, the copycat life simulation are taking a while to get off the ground, but they are coming. Why would someone go back to the Sims when a hyperrealistic, complete, and bug free game emerges on the market? Why would customers trust you with the next installment of the Sims when EA smashed that trust with a sledgehammer by continuing to release expansions, stuff packs, CRAP packs? Project Rene. It's a wonderful concept, I will admit. But it's so easy to see past the curtain here. To see the real reason why there won't be a Sims 5. The shame of being called out for extorting your own customers was just too much to bear! Instead of apologizing to them and rectifying the past mistake by providing a new and complete Sims experience, it'll be so much easier to add to the existing foundations so you can squeeze even more money out of your fans! Why make a new one when you can convince new people to come and spend money, right? This way, new fans may only buy 2 expansion packs but that's another $60 in EA's pocket (standard game price with little to no extra work done) that'll be funneled right back to shareholders. Ah, what a wonderful idea!! And us fans, gosh, we are just so stupid that we will continue falling for it! Never mind the fact that when the 'For Rent' pack came out it corrupted everyone's save files and progress, and was fundamentally broken on release. With no quick fix in sight either. Oh, and many youtubers documented that whole situation live. Thanks to them, I didn't waste my money on that pack and corrupt my game. Aren't you tired of being embarrassed? Surely it is just exhausting by now. But we, the fans, are here to help. But you'll have to do something very very difficult.... LISTEN TO US! Phew! That was so hard to say... to the wall or screen . I'll be lucky if so much as a manager puts their eyes on this, let alone a Director. But with all of the digging I've done it could be very fun to do a video essay about the structure of EA, their stock markets, and long terms monetary results of their IPs and the management of them and post it to YouTube. That would get a lot more views than this little forum post. To Kofi Bruce and Richard A. Simonson in particular - I see that you are both Finance Experts. Pray tell, could you indulge upon me your insight and wisdom? Can you explain why turning massively successful single player IPs into mediocre multiplayer IPs is a wise financial decision? Is it a purposeful way of eliminating an IP you no longer want to deal with? In the same way where if you can't or don't want to fire someone you just give them terrible work or exclude them from outings in the hopes they hand in their notice themselves? Because that is exactly how it looks to me. I would love to know which focus groups said 'Yes! We've always wanted Dragon Age to turn into MMO slop! Why stop there?! May as well use generative AI for everything! Those pesky writers think they're so great, but my ChatGPT can outdo them by miles!' considering all of the veteran employees of BioWare were laid off or outright fired, I can't help but assume this is how all of you think. I could be wrong, but unfortunately I can find no proof out there to say I am wrong. Which is why I ask you - what information made you all think that this game needed live service in order to succeed? My favorite line in all of the Dragon Age games will always be from Origins - 'You killed them, didn't you? You killed them all.' 'Like dogs, Shianni.' Lines like this simply do not exist anymore today. Well, from EA, anyway. Larian is doing a smashing job. Thanks for listening to my TED talk, I'm gonna go back to playing BG3 and supporting Larian since ain't no way anyone from EA has read this far! Again, I'm so sorry to any CS staff that read all of this. My gripes are not with you <3 However I have saved this letter externally so if it gets taken down I've got backups.e0f8606ecf64e79d12 days agoSeasoned Newcomer140Views2likes1CommentDear EA- NOBODY WANTS A LIVE SERVICE DRAGON AGE GAME
Dragon Age The Veilguard lacking live service elements is NOT why it failed. Here, let me tell you some of the reasons why it failed: * Weak dialogue writing. Especially Rook's(the player character). The overall dialogue was pretty shallow and basic...like a tween comic book. * It was NOT a "role playing game" even though you marketed it as such * The marketing was way off base and catered to tween anime types(which has NEVER been the appropriate market for Dragon Age) * There was a severe lack of available interaction between the player character and companions. In previous DA games we could have lengthy in-depth conversations with companions to get to know them. In Veilguard you could only talk to them when the game said it was ok. even in the player base(the Lighthouse) the player couldn't chat with companions at-will. When you walk close to companions they say a line or two and then stop and stare at Rook who never responds because for some puzzling reason you guys removed Rook's autodialogue which contributed to Rook feeling like an isolated outcast. People play and love DA games for the companions and our relationships with them. * The romances were overall shallow, brief and unrewarding, Especially Lucanis'. The game was definitely NOT meant for a mature audience. It is PG 13 at best, which is another insult to DA's traditional market. Romances are a big part of DA games for players. Veilguard's romances can't even compare to DAI's. * Why did you put in a nudity button where is literally NO nudity. Side-butt is NOT nudity. Another failure of the romances. * Limited dialogue choices. Rook has limited choices on the dialogue wheel, and they all result in similar responses. There is NO roleplay here, period. In fact, even when you WANT to be a **bleep** and the dialogue wheel response looks like you're going to be, Rook ends up saying something polite and fuzzy. Are you KIDDING me? * The elephant in the room- Taash. You want representation in Dragon Age? Sure it's been in every game, however you want to make GOOD representation. A one-dimensional character whose entire existence is based on their gender identity is NEVER good writing. It's ESPECIALLY not good writing when that character is unlikeable, rude, hypocritical, and dumb as a bag of rocks. Taash was supposed to be 20-22 but written like a fifteen-sixteen year old brat. Why say she's 20-22? So people could feel ok about romancing them? Tacky. You want a good example of representation? Just look at Dorian from DAI. His troubles stem from him resisting cultural norms and daddy issues. He's a complex character who grows during the duration of the game who isn't defined by his sexuality. Taash falls flat in comparison. Taash IS defined by being non-binary. That's Taash...the non-binary who happens to do a bit of dragon hunting. That isn't complex nor interesting, and the character being obnoxious doesn't help at all. * There were VERY limited World State choices from previous games, which has also been a staple of DA. Why? Veilguard completely disregards the vast majority of what players chose in previous games. * The game was left with no real endings or tie-ups. The epilogues, which are also a staple of Dragon Age games, just went over what we did in the game. WE KNOW- WE WERE THERE. We needed to have the stories wrapped up, consequences, results, and MOST OF ALL what happened with our love interest. We got NONE of that. * The game feels cut off...like suddenly the Powers That Be decided it needed to be released earlier than intended, so the game got cut off at the knees. * These are SOME of the reasons Veilguard failed, but I can ONE HUNDRED PERCENT assure you that it has NOTHING to do with Veilguard lacking Live Service game elements. It would have crashed and burned even worse than it did. I can also tell you that long-time fans of Dragon Age feel dishonored, disrespected, and betrayed. We waited TEN YEARS for this? The frustrating thing is that you can see the game had immense potential- you can see it in there, but DA fans(and I assure you Mass Effect fans) are wondering if EA is so far removed from knowing their own customers that they are incapable of giving us a solid game. There are others hoping ME4 crashes and burns so maybe you'd sell DA and ME to someone who would do the games justice for us. WE ALL HATE LIVE SERVICE. I finally played and beat the game. I was kind of disappointed in the ending I was really hoping that Rook and their partner would get married or something and help the Warden’s still take down the blight and dark spawn that was left or continuing to help get rid of the Antam and Venatori that still was lurking around. I would have loved more Romance scenes with all the characters that Rook can fall in love with. If there is a new dragon age coming out I would LOVE to see Lucanis in it as a character that you can still romance with. He is my favorite character in this game. Definitely would love to have him back in a new Dragon Age with more stories about him and to romance him further.EmoGothVampire2 months agoRising Newcomer86Views0likes1CommentMore Character Slots for Consoles
Hi been playing Dragon Age since Origins but whole I have been loving playing Veilguard, I am disappointed that on the PS5 you can only have 3 character slots. This highly restricts players on creating characters considering there are 4 races, 6 factions, 7 romances and 9 specialisations. I hope down the line you make more character slots. I have no idea if this is the same on pc, but it would be good if we could have more then 3 character slots as I don't want to delete my other rooks that I have already created.danielp3332 months agoSeasoned Traveler2.9KViews42likes20CommentsDisappointment!
As a long-time fan of the Dragon Age series, I’ve always looked forward to each new installment with great excitement. The franchise has been a staple in my gaming experience, from Dragon Age: Origins to Inquisition, and I’ve loved the deep storytelling, rich world-building, and meaningful choices that shaped each game. Sadly, after playing Dragon Age: The Veilguard, I find myself deeply disappointed. I really wanted to love this game, and I do love certain aspects of this game. However, I feel like there is something missing in this game. One of the things I’ve always appreciated about the series is the feeling that my choices mattered. Whether it was the fate of characters or the direction of the story, the decisions I made always felt significant. However, in The Veilguard, this sense of agency seems diminished. The game feels more linear, with fewer opportunities for the player to truly impact the world or shape the narrative in meaningful ways. Another major concern for me is the handling of beloved characters. Over the years, I’ve grown attached to certain figures within the Dragon Age universe. However, The Veilguard seems to sideline them, or worse, erase their importance. The lack of acknowledgment of key characters from previous games, particularly those who have played major roles in the past, was not only surprising but felt like a missed opportunity to honor their legacy within the story. Lastly, the overall tone of the game felt heavy and at times bleak. While Dragon Age has never shied away from difficult themes, the overwhelming sense of sorrow and loss in this installment left little room for the kind of emotional highs and character growth that previous games delivered. This shift in tone didn’t resonate with me the way I had hoped. I understand that the development of such a beloved series is a complex and challenging task, and I appreciate the hard work that BioWare has put into the game. However, as a fan who has invested so much time and emotion into this world, I felt that The Veilguard did not live up to the high standards set by its predecessors. I sincerely hope that future updates or installments can return to the heart of what made Dragon Age so special in the first place—meaningful choices, strong character development, and a narrative that truly feels shaped by the player’s actions.rubymoses2 months agoSeasoned Newcomer782Views8likes20CommentsThe Fate of the Leaders of Thedas (And other characters)
Hi, everyone. Hope you’re doing well. The lack of the Dragon Age Keep (wish it was kept) made me question a myriad of things, including the fates of the characters we had met as the Grey Warden, Hawke and the Inquisitor Did we get any news regarding the fate of the leaders of Thedas in the Veilguard? And other characters we had met in the previous games? Including our former companions. Aside from Aveline and Sebastian and Sten and Marius (not a companion but was Calpernia’s former lover). I’m aware that you can get some of them killed but what exactly happened to them if you had spared them? What happened to the leaders and recruits of the Inquisition, Alistair, Anora, Loghain, Fiona, Bhelen, Harrowmont, Irving, Eamon, Isolde, Connor, Teagan, Samson, Feynriel (who goes to Tevinter if you allow him), Celene, Gaspard, Briala, Abelas, Cyril, Alexius, Calpernia, and Meredith who is somehow still alive (or dead after knowing what happened to Kirkwall in the game)? And the list goes on... Regarding Calpernia, her absence was strange since this game takes place in HER homeland of Tevinter. I can only surmise that she might’ve left the Venatori after you had exposed Corypheus’s plans to her in Inquisition. But what happened to her afterwards? I know that she almost became a companion but that’s it. So… have they all perished in the Sixth Blight or are they still alive? And most importantly, who was the Divine? Cheers289Views0likes3Comments[Feedback] No Separate Aiming Inversion
Hello, this is about a basic accessibility setting that the game lacks. The game doesn't have separate inversion for the aiming, there's only two settings called simply "Invert Y-Axis" and "Invert X-Axis". I play with inverted camera and non-inverted aim and therefore need separate inversion for the aiming. The normal camera inversion also can't affect anything else, such as map scroll or lock-on target switching. There is separate sensitivity for the aiming, but not inversion. So you should add two more settings and rename the ones you have so that you have "Invert Camera Y-Axis", "Invert Camera X-Axis", "Invert Aiming Y-Axis" and "Invert Aiming X-Axis". This should be available for both mouse and controller. Again, make sure that normal camera inversion does not affect anything else.LAN0863 months agoRising Novice1.1KViews1like5Comments- SevenUnicorn2413 months agoRising Newcomer87Views0likes1Comment

I've tried rebinding the dodge to several different keys, no luck. I'm also unable to utilize the 'quick recovery' option after suffering a knockback, and can't use one of the early mage talents that incorporates dodge in the ability. Dear EA Games and the amazing team at BioWare, As long-time fans of the Dragon Age series, we’re beyond excited for the release of The Veilguard. This franchise has given us unforgettable stories, deep choices, and some of the most iconic gear in RPG history. One of those legendary pieces is the Blood Dragon Armor — a true symbol of the series. From Dragon Age: Origins to Mass Effect 2, this armor became a fan favorite for its unique design and powerful presence. That’s why we’re asking, as passionate fans: Please include the Blood Dragon Armor as a pre-order bonus in Dragon Age: The Veilguard! It would be a perfect nod to the roots of the franchise. A meaningful gift for returning fans. And a powerful marketing moment for the game's release. We’d love nothing more than to once again don that crimson armor and walk into the Fade feeling like true Wardens. Let’s honor the legacy — and carry it proudly into this new chapter. Hello, I recently downloaded Dragon Age: Veilguard onto my external hard drive because I did not have space for it on my internal hard drive. The connection to my external hard drive was not great, so I was experiencing some lag. I made space on my internal hard drive and moved the Veilguard game folder to the EA Games folder along with all of my other installed games. The EA app says I do not have the game installed, and says as much when I double click on the .exe file directly. There is no option to manage the properties or repair the game like there are with the other games I have installed. I tried changing the default install location in the settings, uninstalling and reinstalling the EA app and using the App Recovery tool, to no avail. I have seen suggestions to start downloading the game again and picking the location of the installed program. The problem is DA:V is a whopping 91GB download, and it won't let me begin the download without making space for it, which I am unable to do. Is there a way to go in and fix the installation files, or am I forced to delete and reinstall? My internet connection is spotty at best, and the EA app will often stop downloading without resuming once it is back online. So I come back after stepping away from my computer minutes or hours later to find I have made no progress on the download. I'd rather not have to take another three to four days to re-download such a large file if possible.3e5a44fe9061f9223 months agoRising Newcomer72Views0likes1CommentAutorun request
This game is almost impossible for me to play without autorun. I have arthritis in my hands. Hand arthritis afflicts nearly 1 in 2 women and 1 in 4 men. That is a huge market being disenfranchised. The tean added so many features for so many groups it is astounding that this - likely the largest group of "special" people in the world - was forgotten. Making it worse, on the very first day the game was released a post was made requesting this feature, and an EA rep said it would passed on to the team. Now, 7 months later, crickets. Please don't make us wait for a disabled modder to create a solution. Originally, there were three names in the in memoriam section at the beginning of the end credits: Bruno Hayne (cinematic designer for various EA games), Olivier Marina (French voice of Varric), and Thanh Nguyen (graphics programmer at BioWare). The Veilguard's end credits have later been updated to include voice actor Peter Renaday (voice of Duncan). Actress Geraldine Blecker sadly died in 2021. The negative judgment is clearly driven by a shared stance rooted in discomfort towards non-binary people. Most of the reviews are misleading and written by people who haven’t actually played this game—maybe just the first five minutes. I read that someone called it "Disney-like," but perhaps that player hasn’t seen the Hoosberg Swamps, post-devastation Minrathous, or even the Necropolis. As for the “shallow dialogue”? Maybe there’s some functional illiteracy going around. The characters are incredibly well-developed and deep; they all interact with each other, creating unique dynamics. The game and gameplay are smooth and well-animated. To be understood and appreciated, a game needs to be played in its entirety—including all the side missions, which add depth, emotion, story, and bring all the pieces together. I finished it in tears. I’ve played every title, and since I romanced Solas in Inquisition, what happens—thanks to completing the side quests and the Crossroads—between him and the Inquisitor at the end of Veilguard moved me deeply. The voice acting is masterful; the emotions and intentions are truly immersive. The maps are highly detailed, and you can create a variety of playstyles. For me, it’s a 9/10 game. Those who complain about the lack of open world clearly haven’t explored the maps, which are vast and easy to get lost in. That said, there are things that could’ve been done better, like how some of the returning characters were handled. A few left a bitter taste in my mouth because of how differently they were designed. I would have liked to see crafting return, but the upgrade mechanics are still solid. I also would’ve liked to rely more on character tactics. All in all: PLAY IT, and then we’ll talk. Immerse yourself in the story, don’t go in with prejudice because of a community that’s taken a stance against the character Taash and their identity. I want to emphasize that their story is incredibly deep—a journey of self-discovery, seeking maternal approval, and ultimately feeling truly themselves.I don’t know if those who created and brought this game to life (with such emotion) will ever read this post... But know this: Your work was not in vain. The result is outstanding. Be proud of Veilguard and of yourselves. Thank you. ____ [EA_Garrus] Moved from DA IT to DA EN Boards. I just wanted to take a moment to express how truly amazing this game is. From start to finish, it has everything a gamer could ask for – a fantastic story that had me hooked right from the very beginning, great combat music, engaging puzzles, incredible voice acting, captivating cut scenes, and dialogue that shines, especially during the closing scenes when every character has their final say. The last few chapters were particularly enjoyable for me because, unlike most end levels where you face extremely difficult bosses, this game strikes a perfect balance between combat and storytelling. The conclusion, with the camera seamlessly swinging from one character to another without any cuts, combined with the stunning graphics and orchestral music, had my heart pounding and my hair standing on end. That, to me, is the sign of a truly compelling game. Kudos to everyone involved in making this game – I thoroughly enjoyed it. On a side note, I found two trophies to be particularly challenging. The first one is 'Enhancements,' where you have to fully level up certain armor. I was at the point of no return, having completed every side quest but still hadn't found a gold legendary primary weapon. Despite opening numerous chests and maxed-out merchants, it remained elusive. I eventually returned to the map and searched for unopened chests, finally discovering one in the Wetlands on the stairs whisp puzzle in the ruined castle. The second challenging trophy was 'Clear Minds Open Hearts.' I only realized at the point of no return that I hadn't made the right choices in the conversation during the quest 'Regrets Of The Dread Wolf,' which made my heart sink. After investing 50 hours into the game, missing out on the trophy was a major disappointment. Fortunately, I had a save point that took me back to that quest, but it only had me with 4 out of the 5 items needed to progress. The last item was locked behind blite, which required a 'Champions Of Essence' rune to access. After many more hours of gameplay, I finally found the rune I needed after defeating a boss, retrieved the final piece, and made a save before the conversation. Phew, that was frustrating. So, my advice to anyone playing this game is to ensure you make the right choices during the conversation at the end of the quest "Regrets Of The Dread Wolf." It will save you so much time. By the way, is it wrong I had a bit of a thing for Neve haha 🤣 Thanks again to everyone involved in creating this game – it's one of the most enjoyable games I've ever played 🙂👍🏆SLOPPY10015 months agoSeasoned Newcomer110Views1like1Comment
