Windows 7 players who can't get Sims 1 to play again...solution!
copy/paste from my answer to this question, so i thought i'd make a thread. yesterday on a whim, i wanted to play sims 1 again. it'd been a few months. well, i could not get it to run at ALL. not with my regular "run as admin" or anything. i still right clicked my sims.exe icon, went to properties, compatibility, check box "run program in compatibility mode" and choose windows xp service pack 3. also click box "run as administrator". now that thats done, i expected it to work once again. nope. google search after google search, i finally found the problem. a windows update on september 9th has apparently screwed up many people sims 1 game, making it not play. trick is to remove it. remove update KB3086255 and it should work. control panel, windows update, view update history, click installed updates at the top of tab. there you should be able to remove update KB3086255. this is the only way to play it to my knowledge. MANY thanks to beatlesblondie over at the Mod The Sims forums for the tip. you saved my sanity!!!93KViews1like62CommentsSims 1 won't start
I have a new computer, and the game won't start on it. I installed it, I got a pop up with a menu to press play, and once I do that, the pop up disappears and it won't start! Yes, I've tried trouble shooting compatibility, running as an administrator, still nothing works! I also tried downloading a "virtual xp", as suggested on many forums, it wouldn't work!! If anyone has a solution, I'd love the help.42KViews0likes33CommentsThe Sims 1 Crashes on Launch
I've just finished installing The Sims Legacy Edition and as you can imagine I was excited to fire up the game and dive into the nostalgia. The game won't even open. The Sims icon flashes up along the taskbar as if the game's about to launch, then disappears and immediately takes me back to the EA App. Is anyone else having this issue? Somehow it seems EA have even managed to break the older games now. :(Solvedalexspoom138 months agoSeasoned Ace41KViews185likes454CommentsThe Sims 1 Complete Collection on Origin
Recently I've purchased The Sims 1 Complete Collection and I got really upset when I realized tha EA is being so neglect with the most successfull game that became this franchise so big. I tried to register the game in my Origin Account, and as I imagined, the serial was not valid. So I started a chat in US Origin (I'm brazilian) and asked for help to register the game in my account. In the begining I thought I would be successfull in this process, until the moment when the clerk said that the registration wouldn't be possible because the game is very old. I answered saying that Origin owns older games than The Sims 1 (SimCity 2000, Theme Hospital...), and the clerk was unable to explain the availablity of these games. So then, I started observing my game and I realized that it was produced in 2008. I notified the clerk about this, about Sims 2 also. I got lots of criteria about the fact that "The Sims Complete Collection is too old", until the clerk guided me to create a topic in Origin forum about this question to call attention of the developers. Instantly I looked for it to find answers about my issue. After I searched topics in forum, I thought about what the clerk has told me "all attention of the developers" e asked him about it. He said that a post in the forum could convince (or not) the developers to provide The Sims 1 in Origin. He also offered me The Sims 2 Ultimate Collection (I already own this one), saying that it was better than TS1. I thought a little disrispect, once my first question was about how to register The Sims Complete Collection in my account. After 3 hours chatting trying to understand why the game will not be available on Origin to date, I concluded what was mentioned at the beginning of the publication. Since now... I'm a big fan of The Sims series and I am REALLY disapointed about the way EA treats this classic game that gave birth to everything we have today. :'(joaozinho-jpeg10 years agoSeasoned Scout36KViews1like65CommentsInstalling Sims 1 Windows 10-Solution Found
I know to actually play the game you need that patch someone released but unfortunately this requires you to have the game already installed. When I click on the setup.exe file, nothing happens. Has anyone been able to install Sims on Windows 10?34KViews0likes22CommentsWindows 10 players solutions for sims 1 :)
"Installing the mod that bypasses the disc and running the game in compatibility mode for Windows XP SP2 fixed the problem for me. A modified Sims.exe to do this can be found here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0ByvqSle1TbhCSGJETG1Ha3lEUUE/view?usp=sharing I have uploaded it to Google Drive, as the website I found it on was a bit sketchy. I scanned it with my anitvirus and it came up normal... Google Drive also scans anything you upload with it's antivirus, but regardless use at your own risk. Please note that this is not a link to a pirated version of the game, just a fixed Sims.exe that will allow the game to launch on Windows 10. I own the game and installed it on my computer via the installation disks. Obviously you will have to own the game too for this to work. Instructions on getting it working: 1.) Make sure you already have the game installed on your computer. 2.) Go to :C > Program Files (x86) > Maxis > Sims. Rename the Sims.exe to sims.old. Make sure you keep this file in case the new one doesn't work. 3.) Download the file and move the new Sims.exe to the same folder (:C > Program Files (x86) > Maxis > Sims). 4.) Launch, run the game in compatibility mode if necessary. 5.) If it works, enjoy. If not, remove the new Sims.exe and change the old one to it's original name. Good luck. Hopefully this helps anyone who's spent hours searching the internet trying to find a solution to this issue. All credit goes to this simmer here. It worked for me, I had each game installed up to making magic. I had to click on cancel everytime it told me to laod the disk the first few times but now my game loads no problem. Just a reminder if you don't play the game in full screen you will have the black box issue and it can easily be resolved by just pressing the control, alt and delete buttons and just exiting out of that screen. Once you back to the sims screen the black box will be gone ;) Just like I showed other simmers here "mcrudd;14213340" wrote: I do the black screen everytime I load it, all you do is hit the control alt and delete key and then cancel the page then its back to normal :) So game loads with just a black square http://i.imgur.com/h3w9ccv.png Hit the control alt and delete buttons http://i.imgur.com/Nzig0Dt.jpg That screen will come up, it has cancel at the bottom, just hit the cancel button. I can't printscreen that page so had to look for this one on the internet via google image When the above page exits your game will be perfect minus the black block http://i.imgur.com/sm4q8kw.png This only happens if I play my game in minimised windows, when I was playing it in full screen it did not happen one time, game ran perfectly, I just prefer minimised screen ;) I hope this helps some of you to play on windows 10 :)mcrudd10 years agoLegend24KViews1like17Comments♥♥♥ Sims 1 and 2 thread for those interested ♥♥♥

I've bought and downloaded The Sims + The Sims Packs but it will not run the game. It acts like it's going to, but nothing happens. I've restarted, run as admin, repaired the game files, and uninstalled/reinstalled the game. EDIT: I am on Windows 11. EDIT: This is about THE SIMS, not The Sims 2. If you are having issues with The Sims 2, please go to another thread so that EA staff and other people with this issue do not get confused about the solution.Solvedvampirejpg8 months agoSeasoned Traveler13KViews84likes159Commentssolution to "unknown error..aborting installation" when installing/reinstalling sims 1
At least this worked for me, with the complete collection, I found it here- https://www.games4theworld.club/t22742-the-sims-1-installation-unknown-error-encountered-aborting-setup# Hello, When you attempt to (re-)install "The Sims 1" from Games4theworld, the installer might not come up at all, or you may be confronted with the error message that is in the topic title of this thread ("unknown error encountered - aborting setup"). The error seems to be caused by a previous (faulty) installation of the game. What you should do now is this. 1. Make sure to unhide all hidden files/folders. In Windows 8 & 10, you should be able to mark the option "hidden items", shown in the screenshot here. In Windows Vista and 7 go to the Control Panel -> Appearance and Personalization -> Show hidden files and folders. Under the tab "View", scroll down a bit and tick the option named "Show hidden files, folders and drives". Click on Apply, then OK. 2. Navigate to the location C:\Program files (x86). You should see a folder named "InstallShield Installation Information". Go inside it. 3. In my case, there was an entry for The Sims 1, with the folder name {F2527115-B8BF-4FDB-B5DA-5AADFB7C13E1}. If you see such a folder in your case, delete it, and try the installation again. Pay close attention to the folder name, so that you don't delete anything wrong ! If you don't have such a folder, you should check all other existing folders instead, under InstallShield Installation Information. Navigate inside each subfolder and open the "Setup.ini" files. Keep looking under "AppName" until you find the folder that contains "The Sims Complete" under AppName. And that is the folder you will need to delete.11KViews1like2CommentsSims 1 crash on launch, post Feb 4 update
This thread is for Sims 1 crashing on launch after the February 4 patch. If you're affected, please provide the a dxdiag, a vulkaninfo report, and an EA App error report ID. Please also post a screenshot of any error message you see, or note that you don't see an error. See below. For the dxdiag, click Windows key-R, enter dxdiag in the run box, wait for the scan to finish, click "Save all information," and save the file to your desktop. From there, you can attach it to a reply using the paper clip (Attachment) icon included with the other formatting buttons. For the vulkaninfo, click Windows key-R, enter vulkaninfo in the run box, and wait for the scan to finish (the scroll bar should stop moving). Click anywhere in the window and click ctrl-A to highlight all the text. Click ctrl-C to copy. Open Notepad and ctrl-V to paste. Save the file as vulkaninfo [your username] , upload it to a third-party filesharing site, and send a private message to EA_Solaire with the link. If you have a gmail account, you have Google Drive too and some free storage. Otherwise, Dropbox and Pastebin are good options. Here's how to create an EA App error report: https://help.ea.com/en/help/ea/ea-app/run-ea-error-report/ Please post the report ID in this thread along with your dxdiag. For the error message, if you have one, you can use Windows key-shift-S to take a screenshot. Attach it to your reply using the camera (Insert Media) icon included with the other formatting buttons.Solved11KViews13likes174CommentsRunning Sims 1 & 2 Legacy Editions on Mac M1/M2: Issues and Solutions
Hi everyone, I’ve been testing out the new Sims 1 and Sims 2 Legacy Editions on my M1 MacBook Pro (2021) and wanted to share my experience. These games are designed for Windows 10/11, but running them on a Mac comes with challenges due to the ARM architecture. Here’s what I’ve tried: What Didn’t Work: Parallels Desktop (Windows 11): Sims 1: The game wouldn’t launch at all. Sims 2: Showed a DirectX 9 error: "Failed to find any DirectX 9.0c compatible graphics adapters." Despite adjusting Parallels settings (e.g., allocating 4–6 CPU cores, 8 GB RAM, and enabling DirectX), the VM didn’t emulate the required DirectX features correctly. Running dxdiag revealed that Direct3D Acceleration was disabled, and DirectX 12 Ultimate was marked as unavailable. Parallels Desktop (Windows 10): Couldn’t test this because Microsoft no longer supports Windows 10 ARM, and Parallels doesn’t allow it to be installed on M1/M2 Macs. Other Tools: I haven't tried any other tools, as honestly, I was antsy to play. Once I found Shadow PC, I decided to try it. What Worked: Shadow PC: A cloud-based x86 Windows PC solved all compatibility issues. Full DirectX 9 support, high-end GPU (equivalent to RTX 3070), and native Windows gaming. Both Sims 1 and Sims 2 ran smoothly without errors or tweaks. Next Steps: I plan to keep an eye on EA release notes and updates to see if future patches improve compatibility with virtualization tools like Parallels or Wine/Crossover. I'll update on this discussion as I find out anything new.itswhimsyb8 months agoRising Novice10KViews5likes14CommentsWho wants Sims 1 on Origin???
I was personally very excited when I saw the Sims 2 Ultimate Collection was on Origin for free, I downloaded it immediately! After a stroll down memory lane, I started thinking about the Sims 1 and how amazing that game was (I used to have the Complete Collection a looooong time ago but I lost booklet with the install code :'( ) I want to start a poll to see who else wants TS1 Complete Collection to be on Origin (free or not, I'd go for either!)10KViews1like131CommentsTHE SIMS ONLINE
Not sure where its appropriate to post this, but I use to be a fellow TSO member (the sims online) back in early 2000s, when Maxis ruined it (ea ruined it, go figure) but long story short was wondering if anyone else ever played and if you seen it in The Sims 4, when your sims play video games, play sims forever - when they play it looks just like the sims online. I wish they would bring it back :( it was awesome. glad to say its back! freeso, free sims onlinetyedye271912 years agoNew Spectator8.6KViews1like94CommentsSims 1 Legacy Crashing
Just bought the birthday bundle to get both the original Sims and Sims 2. I started playing the original Sims and only got maybe an hour in before the game crashed. Booted it up again and had the same issue. My computer is on Windows 11. The first time it crashed while I was creating a family. The second time was while I was in buy mode.vitreallis8 months agoNew Traveler8KViews23likes47CommentsThe Sims 1 Help! - FIXED!
I recently installed all of my TS1 games on my laptop, but none of the sim lane houses appeared. Can somebody give me a copy of their templateuserdata folder so I can get this problem fixed? I had Sims 1 installed on Windows 8.1. It was acting really strange so I went to take it off. It said it uninstalled but the Title is still there. It won't go away. Even though the game files are gone, the registry keys are gone...there's no sign of it except in the uninstall or repair section of my computer. When I try to uninstall it I get an error...Unknown error encountered...aborting set-up. If I try to install it again, I get the same error. I can't play it because there's nothing there to play. Can somebody please give me some advice on how to get it off so I can re-download it the right way?
