Weekly Class Debrief - Support

The problem I think is that current version of Support that give ammo + health + revive + mortar + incen is too powerful to receive C4, even if they split the classes and give Support C4 might be too strong (ammo = infinite C4 and can run Carbine or SMGs without LMGs). What I can't figure out is why does Assault not have C4?

ToneOfGrey​ I understand your concern, but I don’t think it would create a balance issue. If anything, I think it would add more depth and dynamism to the gameplay.

C4 isn’t just about destroying vehicles or killing infantry — it can also be used to destroy parts of the environment and create new tactical opportunities. That’s something Battlefield has always done really well.

In older Battlefield titles like Battlefield 3 and Battlefield 4, Support had access to C4 and could resupply themselves, and it was never really considered a balance problem.

Even in Battlefield: Bad Company 2, the Assault class — which was essentially the ammo class — had C4, and again, it didn’t break the balance. If anything, it helped maintain a better balance between vehicles and infantry, because vehicle players had to stay more alert.

Honestly, I don’t think making C4 more accessible would hurt the balance — I think it would improve it. It would bring back more memorable moments, more destruction, and more tactical options.

Right now, how often do we actually get killed by C4? Rarely. And in vehicles, it’s even less common. In older Battlefield games it wasn’t uncommon, but it wasn’t overwhelming either — it just felt like part of the sandbox.

For environment destruction the sledgehammer is honestly a really good inclusion. But I have heard certain walls stopped being destructible via sledgehammer in this latest update. I think the goal of limiting gadgets is to encourage squad play with I am finding better for the game in BF6. I usually run support with carbine in Bf4 and never had to ever rely on my squad/teammates (I can always get ammo, use C4 to kill tanks, and carbine for infantry).

Also, Recon with Spec Ops specialization with C4 is underrate by the community as a whole, I usually kill more tanks than Engineers in my games. not to mention C4 for fortified position since it destroys shields, ignore grenade and rocket interceptors.

A support that is running ammo with C4 and a carbine is a solo class, which I do not think fit the squad play of the game.

Honestly, it's like you're either an AI bot that automatically replies, or a guy who runs all the replies through chatGPT. Didn't mean to offend you, bro.

Honestly I wonder if the devs are able to track "selfishness" when it comes to team gadgets to actually see if this really is the case with support players.

Like its wholly possible they are more self centered and if it is then sure we should consider nerfs but I would wanna KNOW first otherwise we are going after a group of people that aren't enough of a majority to balance around.

ToneOfGrey​ For the sledgehammer, I fully agree with you — it’s a great addition. I play Support about 95% of the time and I always run it as my melee. It’s really useful for clearing objects, bushes, and creating new lines of sight. You can also break certain walls to open new paths, which is very helpful in some situations.

That said, while it does the job, it’s not as efficient as good old C4. Breaking a wall with the sledgehammer usually takes 2–3 hits, whereas with C4 you just place it and it’s instantly done. It’s faster and more practical, especially in the middle of a fight when you’re trying to create a quick flank.

And yeah, I’ve also noticed the issue you mentioned with some walls no longer being destructible. Hopefully that’s just a bug and gets fixed soon, because it’s frustrating when you try to open a path and it doesn’t work.

About limiting gadgets to encourage squad play, I understand your point. But honestly, no matter the class or the gadgets, there will always be players who choose to play solo. That’s just how it is. I don’t think limiting options will fully solve that.

Every class still has a role and can benefit the team in some way. For example, even if a Support player is playing selfishly for self-resupply, the ammo box is still on the ground and other teammates can use it. So even selfish play can still have some indirect team value.

For BF4, I agree with you. Back then, you only had two gadget slots, so a lot of players ran ammo + C4, which made the class very self-sufficient. But in BF6, the system is different — the supply box is mandatory, and then you choose additional gadgets.

If C4 were to come back, I think a good compromise would be to limit stacking offensive gadgets. For example, similar to how Engineers can’t carry two rocket launchers, you could prevent combinations like C4 + incendiary launcher or C4 + mortar. That way, players would still need to keep at least one team-oriented gadget, which helps reduce pure solo play while keeping flexibility.

But yeah, I understand your point and I respect your opinion. I still think there’s something worth doing with C4 — it just needs some restrictions to make sure players are required to keep at least one team-oriented gadget.

While i obviously don't have to the data that would be able to highlight how much, or little of an issue being a selfish player is. All i can go off is my in game experiences from BF6, previous games and beyond. 

When you look at what things people have a tendency to take advantage over, it more often than not involves someone or something that provides for that induvial. The more this other person or object does, the more it's taken advantage of by the induvial if they are that way inclined. This is a sad truth. 

So while yes, the supply pouch is an amazing gadget and provides a lot for the team when used correctly, it also provides just as much for an individual support player when in isolation. Which when the bag was split into an ammunition half for support and a healing half for medic there was less to take advantage of from one source. 

With the supply pouch being an on demand heal and ammunition supply it enables the user to self for fill two needs. Utility they'd otherwise have to find at least one other player for. Which is too strong when in the hands of a competent player and is also perfect for someone who only cares about themselves or for individuals who might not be on the same skill level as other players, as they might not fully grasp the concept of teamwork and enjoy having a gadget that baby-sits and does that teamwork for them.  

If they want to go about defining the individual roles of supports training paths further but want to keep support as one class. Do too little and it solves nothing with cementing the classes identity, you make them too individualistic from one another, ie fire support can no longer use the defibs and the supply pouch heals for less when using that training path. While this is a step in the right direction, but by which point you might as well make two separate more specialized classes with their own training paths, weapon proficiencies and ultimately clear identities and defining roles on the battlefield.

If you were wanting to keep with four classes instead of five then I guess the Assault class could become the Medic class, with an aggressive damaging focused training path and a less aggressive healing focused training path. 

But they we'd have a situation from BF4 days where people in chat would complain about people not running defibs when they should etc.. 

Plus many people really love assault having the redeployment beacon so unless it remains on the aggressive training path as a gadget option, or it goes to Recon but the spec ops training path gets a rework with Carbines as a signature weapon, then that might keep them happy.    

Could introduce spec ops a fifth class, spec ops gets some of Assaults abilities, like the beacon but have more of a focus on stealth for one one training path and aggressive play for the other. 

Assault now has the ability to drag revive everyone, one training path is aggressive focused, the other medic focused. Still retains some of it's original gadgets and gains some new ones.  

But that might be reshuffling things a bit too much VS just doing a fifth Medic class but it would be interesting.

Beacon should have only ever been on recon class, people already complain no one on support revives properly or at all so that wont make any difference in complaining levels lol. Game just needs to go back to its roots. But with how this games been built ( a call of duty knock-off... IMO ) They may aswell just let you build your class with what ever gun, gadgets, class path you want now
