Cursor jumping to corners of screen

I just got a new PC yesterday (it's the same PC and software as my previous one just a new version). I downloaded the AE app and reinstalled the game with all the add-ons and had no issues while playing until now.

Everything on my PC works as should with no issues except when I boot up the game. My cursor is constantly jumping to a random corner of the screen and I can't control it, whether I'm on the main menu, in settings, or in game/build mode.

I've already tried restarting my computer, repairing the game, and restoring the default settings. Does anyone know why this might be happening? And what can I do to fix this?

  • swartmel  Try disabling the EA App in-game overlay, under Settings > Application.

If that doesn't help, are you playing in fullscreen or windowed mode, and does it make a difference if you switch?  Do you have multiple monitors connected, and does it help to disconnect one?  I'm not saying you need to play with only one monitor going forward, only that this would be a useful test.

My game is doing this same thing. I just bought this laptop brand new 4 Days ago. Immediately bought the sims to play and it played fine the day of purchase and the day after. But for the last 3 days my brand-new mouse I bought (USB plug in) jumps to the corners of the screen constantly, making playing the game impossible. I tried a different mouse, and it is doing the same thing. I have also done all the same things Swartmel did, and I tried your suggestion above all with no fix.

  • MelC1994  Please try using the touchpad rather than your mouse.

If that doesn't help, please provide a dxdiag.  Hit Windows key-R, enter dxdiag in the run box, wait for the scan to finish, click "Save all information," and save the file to your desktop.  From there, you can attach it to a reply using the camera (Insert Media) icon included with the other formatting buttons.

Since this original post, I've seen a few other players with this problem, at least two on exactly the same laptop.  So it would be useful to compare your info and theirs.

Here you go! I have tried disabling the in app overlay and it doesn't help. I don't know how to turn off the touchscreen on my computer, so I haven't been able to try that.

MelC1994  You're the fourth player I've seen with this issue and this exact model laptop.  While that's highly suspicious, I unfortunately haven't been able to fix the issue or found any useful approaches.

But since the problem is confined to one particular laptop, the problem could be Lenovo software.  So please open the Task Manager and kill anything with Lenovo in its name before trying to play.  Go through the entire background processes list.  If you accidentally kill a critical process, you can simply restart your laptop.

  • Same issues. Not a brand new computer, but nowhere near old enough to be having problems like this.  EA app works fine but as soon as Sims4 starts to load, cursor jumps randomly around screen making game unplayable.  Touchscreen controls are the only way to close out of Sims app because cursor wont work properly.  dxdiag info below

(side note, trying to attach dxdiag file through 'insert media' doesnt work as it doesn't allow text files to be attached this way. Ive attached using 'attachment' [paperclip icon]).

  • caitlynshuda  Thanks for the dxdiag, and you have exactly the same laptop as the two other users who replied with dxdiags.  You can try the suggestions I posted in those threads if you want:

I'm not confident they'll help, since they didn't make a difference to the other users, but these are the only ideas I can come up with.  I would suggest the clean boot (described in those two threads) but additionally going through the Task Manager and disabling any Lenovo services that will stay off.  Since only Lenovo laptops have been affected so far, I still wonder whether some proprietary software is the cause.

I guess you could play with the mouse and touchpad settings under Windows Settings > Devices as well.  I'm still running Windows 10 on my laptop and may not have all the options you do, so I can't offer more than "switch stuff on and off and see what happens."

I'll ask around to see whether other people have ideas as well.

Interesting, it worked for me for at least a month, but it isn't now.  This site keeps changing though.
