I bought the game june 2016 and I've never been able to open it, since origin keeps telling me that "the sims 4 is already running" with the errorcode: [ed35e0ea:29f00e76:00000000:18a1dd51] I've already tried reinstalling origin and resetting it. I've checked my task manager and it is not running. I've gotten a new macbook (the touchbar one) and it still tells me that the sims 4 is already running. @Munteax If you have created, or attempted to create, a symlink to store your Electronic Arts/The Sims 4 folder on an external drive head over to this thread instead - https://answers.ea.com/t5/Mac/-Creating-a-symlink-in-macOS-to-store-the-Sims-4-folder-on-an/m-p/12329439 Go to System Preferences/Settings > Privacy & Security > Files & Folders and make sure the game has access to the Documents folder. If your game is installed on an external drive it also needs access to removable volumes. Or System Preferences/Settings > Privacy & Security > Full Disk Access and give the game full access. If you're really stuck, set up a new user account on your Mac and make sure you allow all accesses when prompted by the OS.

izzypound0447 see the solution in the opening post. Your game cannot access the Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4 folder. The game is not running, the error message is completely inaccurate.

Hello! i'm really struggling with the same problem. i have just purchased a 2020 macbook air and have had the sims 4 on a windows device and have just tried to download it on my mac. i have never had any issues with the sims 4 on windows but it wont work now using a mac.
i have tried redowloading it and everything. Getting really fed up and nothing will work. I dont understand how it says its already running since i have only just dowloaded the game ;/
any help would be much appreiated i know this post was a long time ago.

i have tried to open the sims 4 game and it says already running however its not showing and when i go back into the app it lets me launch the game again but it still says running. i have reset my computer multiple times and also tried app recovery.

The change over from Origin to the EA app seemed to go smoothly, no obvious issues, but when I click on the EA app to open Sims 4 it claims there is an error and that it can't open the game because it is already running. This is deeply frustrating.

I play on Mac (using the EA app), and it had been working alright. After a while, I noticed the "The Sims" folder was missing. (I tried to download new mods, only to discover the "Mods" folder didn't even exist anymore.) Nonetheless, the game would run smoothly and actually use mods, but I just couldn't find where it was reading them from. I tried deleting all the game files, including the EA app's files, to reinstall it, thinking it would help (it did not). I still don't have the "The Sims" folder, but now I'm facing another problem: the game itself won't even start. I've seen one of the possible solutions to the "already running" problem is to move the folder to the desktop, which is quite amusing in my situation.
If anyone has any ideas about what I can do, please share.
