Re: Apex Legends - constant lagging

Hi there, @CallyAGP.

I'll try to help find out why you're lagging in our games. First, are you on a wired or wireless connection?

  • Xbox is connected to the hub.. I even brought a lead so the controller didn’t have to be wireless.

I tested a theory today. I played a non EA game, no lag. The moment I switched to an EA game, the lag begins which suggests to me that it’s the EA server?

That's good your Xbox is on a wired connection. We can rule out issues with wireless. Do you have a PC by chance? If so let’s find out how your connection is reaching our servers. Can you run a UO Trace and screenshot me the results? Instructions are here.

  • Please see attached the results...

  • My laptop is wireless.. I cannot connect it to the hub as it doesn’t have a port to do so.

Those results won't be valid then. Since you play wired, you need to run the test wired since there's a big difference between the 2 connections. You might benefit from using alternate DNS servers. From the Xbox One home screen, go to Settings > Network > Advanced settings > DNS settings > Manual. (If Settings doesn't appear on the home screen, select My Games & Apps, then Settings). From there, enter the Primary DNS as "208.67.222.222" and the Secondary DNS as "208.67.220.220". If that doesn't help, try using the google DNS servers which are: primary alt number 8.8.8.8 - secondary alt number 8.8.4.4. Let me know if this makes a difference or not.

  • It improved but only slightly in some areas, for example the homepage and when my character drops from the drop ship but the game itself, still lags.

I honestly think the fault lies with the EA server and it’s something that EA themselves need to resolve by the looks of it and judging by everyone’s comments as I have no problem playing non EA games, no lag at all with them.

I'm glad there's some improvement at least. Have you tried opening the ports for Apex? They are listed here. You can do some internet searching to get some help with opening ports. Let me know if that makes a difference or not. Thanks!

  • Let me explain something about this game the servers are trash and not region locking them makes them 10x worse. This game is not fully optimized for all internet connections, some people can stand in between two shooters and not take any damage due to the terrible tic-rate of the game, Ping doesn’t matter on Apex as it’s a shooter first game, meaning no matter what if you shot at someone that is 200ms ping and you’re 30ms ping you will always connect to them unless the server drops packets or the delay response to the server causes no regs, simple solution lag more pick a higher ping server

  • I've been suffering the exact same issue since season 9. Even tried the DNS fix they suggested, and it hasn't changed. Wired connection, new modem, good internet. I've been playing since day one and now I'm giving up on this busted game.

  • @EA_Aljo

I actually have a similar situation to that guy. Since the Genesis update in season 9 on PC (wired connection), i've been lagging constantly which also ties in with the FPS drops; just super choppy/micro-stuttering. I don't have high CPU usage like the others though.

I generally have 2-4% packet loss on all the EU servers (all the other regions are generally ok but I am in the UK so I can't play on them). Before the update I didn't have any packet loss.

Furthermore, before this update, I had around 20-30 ping on most EU servers but now it is anywhere between 40-70 and it will fluctuate like crazy, making the experience awful.

And like the others, I don't have issues on any other games such as packet loss, high/fluctuating ping, and stuttering/FPS drops.

Thanks for all those details. Have you performed any troubleshooting yet? If so, what steps did you take? Also, it would be good to get a UO Trace from you. The instructions are here. Please get me a screenshot of the results. Thanks!

I'm not seeing any issues. You've got some high pings, but that's due to distance since you're hitting a test server in the US. The connection to your router looks ok, but it's a bit high for being wired. Not enough to cause lag or disconnects though. Does your router support QoS (Quality of Service)? If so, try enabling it. Also, check your router for a firmware update.

  • @EA_Aljo

Thanks for taking a look at that.

And it looks like my router doesn't support QoS after looking online, plus it is up to date.

  • Xbox One S

I feel like I've done every troubleshoot in the book. DNS like was suggested. Cleared my cache. Tried a different region. Reset modem. Uninstalled/reinstall.

System shows it is not my Internet. I have played two other FPS games since this issue began, and neither are suffering the same lag spikes like this game.

    @Jad-SZN

QoS is something you see on more recent routers. Especially ones intended for gaming. As far as this issue goes, we're investigating connection issues so hopefully, if there's an issue found, that takes care of it. Otherwise, I think you've done about everything I can suggest. You're also welcome to contact an advisor to see if they have anything else to suggest. You can try contacting @EAHelp through Twitter or open a case with a live support advisor here: https://help.ea.com/en/contact-us/new/. You can also go to facebook.com/eahelphub to get in touch with support. They'll look into this for you. Thanks!

Do you have a PC? If so, can you run a UO Trace and take a screenshot of the results? The instructions are here. Your PC will need to be wired since you're playing on a wired connection, your PC will also need to be wired.
