Infinite saving/loading screens

I originally started having this issue after the September update and saw other people were having the same issue and followed all the advice given.

  • updated all mods
  • removed all CC
  • started a new save (with no CC)
  • removed off-the-grid lot types
  • switched back to DX9

Unfortunately, none of these worked so I decided to wait until the next patch and try again. After the October patch, I updated everything and it's still happening. Whether I'm loading/travelling with a family, exiting CAS, or saving when building on a community lot.

I'm completely out of ideas of what I can do at this point; I have plenty of space on my PC and while loading can be slow sometimes, I know that's because I have quite a few packs and CC and I've never minded. But the infinite screens are getting too much, I can't play the game at all without running in to one and I end up losing any progress I've made.

Really hoping someone can help or this bug can be lessened at least in the next update. 🤞

  • bbudah  Please remove your Mods folder and test again.  If you still run into issues, describe what you see with the Mods folder gone.  Please also let me know whether OneDrive is running on this computer, even if you never use it.

halisimmer  Thanks for letting me know.  Off the Grid should work now though, at least if your game is fully updated.

Removing the mod folder did nothing for me unfortunately. Not sure why it does that exactly, im convinced it's just an EA issue now as I've seen multiple people say they've had the same issue and they don't play with mods or CC. The only thing that's helped me is doing the process I mentioned to 0y39dt8jk0rr

  • I am literally having the same issues, and nothing is working and Im honestly getting sick of sims for all the dumb shi that seems to take place that developers won't fix. I literally tried everything and still met with an infinite loading screen. I ran better exceptions conflict mod and nothing. No LE errors or nothing just EA straight refusing to save my game and getting stuck. Ive been dealing with this for days and I refuse to start another new game just for the same end result.

Same thing is happening to me for the first time ever after I downloaded the life and death pack my game won’t save. Did you ever find a fix?

Not exactly a fix but I've been able to play with this little workaround when it happens.. after the infinite save screen just close the game and when you open it back up don't hit resume on the household at the top, click load game and play that way so it takes you to manage worlds. From there choose a world your household does not live in and choose a random lot (better if the lot only contains base game items and not modified with CC) It should let you load in and save there without the infinite screen and when you travel back home it should be okay from there. Thats been working for me but ofc the infinite screen is sometimes inevitable, so I just repeat that process. In the event you get stuck on loading screen while trying to travel back home or to a different lot (like I have smfh) I found that if you have another sim in the household that you know is at the home/lot you want to go to, click the little square at the top right corner of their icon and click switch control to sim and it will take you home then just bring the sim that's stuck at the lot and making you see the infinite loading screen when trying to travel; they instantly pop up. Hope this helps!

  • halisimmer  Does the lot in question have the Off the Grid challenge?  That's a known issue:

The only current workaround is to not use the challenge.  You can remove it by loading the lot in Build mode, which you can access through Manage Worlds.  Use Load Game rather than Resume if you're trying to fix an existing save and can't load into live mode.

Fishing in Sulani is also a known issue:

puzzlezaddictOff The Grid was the problem. Thanks for flagging! It's disappointing (one of my favourite was to play/R2R) but my sanity is restored!

I just started having this issue today, and it's a dealbreaker for me with the Sims. I can't believe you've been experiencing it since the September update! I've never had mods or CC. I'm on a PC. To be extra careful, I completely uninstalled and re-installed The Sims 4, and then I started a new save file. It took 20 minutes (and multiple successful loads) but it happened again: the infinite loading screen, specifically when returning to the home lot. In the first save that kept sticking here it would also happen when trying to play the lot from Manage Worlds (build mode worked, but play didn't). Could it be an Island Living problem? Fishing is still not working there, either, but it does in other worlds.

We can't play the game like this! Help!

  • IGNISREN  As a test, please try playing in a clean user folder.  Move the entire Sims 4 folder out of Documents > Electronic Arts and onto your desktop.  When you launch the game, a clean folder will spawn with no content.  (Your saves and other content will be intact in the folder you've moved but temporarily unread by the game.)  Don't add anything to the new folder yet; just start a new save and see whether you see the same issues.  Please do test both saving and traveling, separately if necessary.  Use a new sim you create and a default EA-made house in a base game world, nothing from the Gallery.

If you still can't save your progress, please let me know what antivirus you use and whether OneDrive is running on this computer.

lolaawolf  I'd like the same information from you as well.
