Battlefield 6 through the seasons – Roadmap for a bright future ahead
I’ve played Battlefield games for what now is the larger part of my life, starting with local shenanigans with friends via LAN in Battlefield 1942 up the newest entry in the series with Battlefield 6. I have a great fondness for the franchise and want to see it succeed, which is why I am taking the time to paint a picture of the future for Battlefield 6 – or what would be an ideal future for me personally and maybe some of you out there. With this humble post, my goal is to participate in a conversation and hopefully to inspire. Many of these ideas aren’t necessarily new of course, they have been part of the series at one point or another, but I think that they could contribute to the success and evolution of Battlefield 6. I do not have any metrics, I only have my own experience and my own preferences, but what I identify as a problem of the game at the moment is a lack of direction, an emphasis of quantity over quality, especially when it comes to game modes. Most of us who have played more than one Battlefield game in the past would naturally gravitate towards Conquest or Rush, which are probably now the cornerstones of the franchise. I would suggest to, instead of introducing new game modes, sharpen the identity of the ones that already exist, hone in on what makes these game modes special. I think they would greatly profit from specific rules, that enhance their core fantasy. Let’s take Escalation as an example: In theory, it is a great mode that inceases the tension as the battle rages on, but as of yet, it has little that sets it apart from conquest, just like Breakthrough does not have much to differentiate it from Rush. Escalation as well as Breakthrough, however, could just as easily be conceived of as battles of attrition in my opinion. So why not turn attrition into a rule set specific for that game mode – less magazines at spawn for example. Battlefield V already laid the groundwork with its focus on attrition, which could now make a comeback as a specific rule set for specific game modes. A battle that is decided by the best teamplay. Battlefield 6 could evolve, not by having more game modes added, but by having those that already exist changed in a new and exciting way. Another part of that is adding „new“ gameplay mechanics to the game, not game modes. Most likely not with every new season, because that would not be feasible with all the resources in the world, but maybe every quarter? Every six months? But what do I mean with „new“ elements? Let me sketch out a plan for some hypothetical future seasons: 1) „Command and Conquer“ (DICE could literally call it that, since EA own the rights to the IP): (Re-)introduce the commander and bring back Conquest Double Assault. This would instantly add another layer to every match with the new system and – instead of game mode bloat – enhance the experience. Please allow me to lay out the system. One player assumes the role of Commander. The Commander can then use the points his team earns to call in artillery strikes, smoke strikes, UAVs or vehicle reinforcements. They can also issue tactical orders to squad leaders who may then either follow or request a different order if they deem it necessary. This would give teams an incentive to earn points since it results directly in advantages for them, like vehicle requisitions. Meanwhile, to avoid a „fighting commander“ like the many in Battlefield 2, the Commander would have to be perched up inside a command-post in the team’s HQ. Now here’s where Conquest Double Assault comes into play. If certain criteria in the match are met or at a specific point during the match (like 50% of the tickets remaining) the enemy’s HQ could become available for capture like a regular objective. (This could either work like the behemoths in Battlefield 1 and offer a slight advantage to the losing team or instead benefit the winning team.) If the HQ is captured, the Commander cannot use the tools at their disposal and has to fight themselves to hopefully recapture the HQ and re-assume their role. In my view, this would increase the tension during each match and re-introduce an old gameplay system that enhances the overall experience instead of game mode bloat. Commanders could even be a specific rule set for a hypothetical „Total Conquest“ game mode or a general addition to Conquest specifically, as the embodiment of Battlefield’s all out warfare. 2) Fortify your positions!: This update could re-introduce the awesome fortifications gameplay system from Battlefield V, that unfortunately fell short of what it could have been. I propose to add this system back into Battlefield 6 to deepen the game’s mechanics and strengthen squad-play as well as overhaul the game’s maps. This update would allow squads to earn „squad points“, similar to my proposed commander idea, to spend on fortifications and support stations. This then encourages squads to hold captured points to defend the fortifications they have built. 3) Naval Strike: This one is easy because it has been a hit DLC for Battlefield 4. It introduced the Titan Assault from Battlefield 2142 to Battlefield 4, albeit with a focus on aircraft carriers. But my main point about this is naval combat. Boats and ships are currently missing from Battlefield 6 but could add to the fantasy of „All Out Warfare“. I know this isn’t the most original idea and will probably introduced to the game in the not so distant future. But thematically and coherently tying everything together also allows to introduce various amphibious soldier outfits, inspired by real navy special forces (since the Danish frogmen are already in the game). 4) Asymmetrical Warfare: This (proposed) season is tied together by asymmetrical map design and could re-introduce classics such as Wake Island or Gulf of Oman. Asymmetrical map design means that one faction holds all capture points at the start of a turn but one: the enemy team’s spawn. However, all of those points are capturable, leaving this team vulnerable to losing even its only remaining spawn position. These maps have proven to be favorites in the community and the design principles between them have also worked marvellously in the past. I won’t make any further suggestions here, but there are many more ideas out there, like a Rush/Breakthrough-specific season bringing back maps specifically designed for these modes like the community-favourite Damavand Peak. What I intend to show is that tying seasons together with a clear concept and introducing new gameplay mechanics, combined with maps fitting these new concepts, could be a successful path forward in the evolution of Battlefield 6. Finally, I want to address the issue of cosmetics and propose a change on that front as well. Many players have decried a certain shift towards unrealistic skins, and I agree. But there is a (easy?) solution: For most of real history, customization meant individualising pieces of a uniform by either adding patches or insignia, engraving weapons or helmets, etc. DICE should introduce a variety of uniforms as base layers, inspired by real armies, and add a slot based customization that allows us, players, to select the helmets, vests, facemasks, we want „our“ soldiers to wear. Further customizations could then allow for the attachment of, say, camouflage or helmet nets or engravings. Ready or Not for example has shown how such a system can allow for realistic outfits, but with enough options for customization. This would also improve the differentiation between enemy factions due to specific base layers, aka uniforms. I know that this would mean a significant overhaul of the customization that is currently in the game, but I am convinced that players would a) be incentivised to earn smaller customizations, for example through challenges and b) be more willing to spend smaller amounts of money for these customizations, essentially resulting in more players spending their money on customization they actually want over things like profile banners. And now I’d like to hear from you and read your feedback, because I think there are many great ideas in the community on how to ensure a healthy future for Battlefield 6. The base is there, let’s start a discussion now about the future of the game! Thank you for taking the time to read this post!21Views1like1CommentSuggestion: Toggle for Inventory Inspect Animation
Wanted to throw out a small quality-of-life suggestion around the inventory inspect animation when viewing weapons, attachments, and cosmetics. The animation looks great and clearly fits the presentation of the game, but after navigating the menus for a while, especially when comparing items or tuning a loadout, it begins to feel like unnecessary friction. What should be a quick interaction ends up taking longer than expected simply because the transition has to play every time. It would be great to see an optional toggle that lets players disable or shorten the animation if they prefer a faster, more responsive menu. Some players enjoy the visual polish, others prioritize speed — giving the choice would support both without changing the default experience. I also think this could help reduce visual fatigue during longer sessions for players who prefer a more immediate, low-motion interface. Not a major issue by any means, just one of those small usability tweaks that can noticeably improve the overall feel of the game. I know the devs are working on solos, but can we also get a mode for trios? Nearly all my quad games with a random player have gone through the following scenario: -> Game Starts -> Fourth player screams "BREAKING OFF SOLO" -> Fourth player dies -> Fourth player leaves immediately -> Team is put in a disadvantageous position for the rest of the game And another issue with playing with a random, is the fact that nearly all of them refuse to communicate. I've literally had 1 squad mate in the hundreds of redsec game that actually responded. This wouldn't be a problem if we had trios.MaximusKim8910 hours agoSeasoned Newcomer5Views0likes0CommentsMust’ve patched the Cronus?
Because I’m getting absolutely hosed by “console” players in modes like TDM. 30-40 kills, laser-beam guns, etc. I used the be able to be top 5 and even top player on occasional maps, but absolutely getting destroyed all day today by consoles/controller players.Ympakt15 hours agoSeasoned Scout78Views0likes4CommentsAnother Frustrating Failure!
Another EA UPDATE 1.1.3.6 failure! The update was stuck at 30%. I then followed the "EA App Recovery" - "Clear Cache", and nothing. I did a complete (Repair) and nothing. Now I can't update the game, and it took away my (Base Game)... Now, I'm not able to play specific game modes because they're (Locked), or go back to campaign because it's (not installed). Let's see how long this will take to get "fixed." Great job again, EA. Thank you for the $110.00 pre-order worth of headaches.EXILE15715 hours agoSeasoned Scout44Views1like2CommentsOperation Metro-Portal Addition.
Its absolutely getting destroyed by critics. I personally played one round and it was heartbreakingly bad. I feel for the dude that took the time to create such a beloved map but now Metro is effectively dead in BF6.horntho15 hours agoRising Vanguard60Views0likes2CommentsOffical Portal Modes without Bots should be 8 Players to Start!
If you have a Server with Bots its 8 Players to start and it fills with 12 bots Making it 20. Why can't we have 8 Players start a Match without bots and allow the server to populate naturally with out bots. 20 player start with no bots is impossible to accomplish and its not full XP! It should be 8 to start across the board. 6 year Portal runner and creator here asking and hoping for answers...11Views0likes0CommentsIs it me or what?
It seems to me lately that the bots seems to be able see people behind walls and around corners or the bots seem to be in GOD MODE. No mater where I'm at the bots can find you. It does not matter if I am in a building or behind a very big rock and they seem to kill you faster and it's like a instant kill when you die.. It just does not feel right. I don't play BF6 all that much anymore. I feel I got scammed. I may play for an hour max when I do play. I just not all that much fun to play any more. I have been playing BF 2042. It more fun than BF653Views1like3CommentsWhy can't you use the LWCMS in home base?
A sniper can sit in their home base and shoot players and can't be killed unless they are shot. You can't flank them, even if you try you are killed due to being out of the battle. A player using the LWCMS has to be on the battlefield zone to use it. I think the snipers shouldn't be able to hide in their home base. If they can then a player using the LWCMS should be able to too. How is that fair play? EA think before you create, not that hard.Chaz6322 hours agoRising Veteran11Views0likes0CommentsDoes REPORT a player Do anything anymore?
I use to get confirmations in mail about peoples being dealt with for their absolute worse behaviors in chat. There's so many toxic kids I report daily constantly spamming chat with "f*cking sniper / camper " , and other profanities , I don't even want to go into details here but we all know toxic behavior. Lately ,for past 3 days, I neither get confirmation nor denial of for my reports . Action has been taken / Action hasn't been taken . What is going on? Is system down, or they just stop sending emails in respond ? Do I have to revert back to taking screenshots and reporting players through Report a player web form because this Report for abusive chat and Report for harassment doesn't seem to work lately !BrutalSBK777723 hours agoRising Adventurer11Views0likes0Commentshardware ban is the solution
I saw what Javelin said the other day, showing the graph of the increase in people cheating in Battlefield. The FPS industry is being severely challenged by cheaters and private individuals who sell these programs. This is done with the help of companies that publish the games, which give streamers and regular players permission or a whitelist to dope their games in the name of profit. But then these same companies complain if no one plays Battlefield or Warzone, or if they'll have to work even harder to launch their next title, where they have a lot of customers against them. "He who causes his own misfortune, let him cry over himself" or "Faber est suae quisque fortunae" Battlefield has problems that need to be fixed and the EOMM matchmaking filter removed. These problems keep some players away from the game. But never like the cheating problem. The cheating problem has driven people away from Warzone and has done the same for Battlefield. And EA DICE, instead of staying away from ACTIVISION's policy of exploiting players, has embraced its cause, doing even worse by ruining REDSEC, which died as soon as it was launched, and not even getting past Warzone during COVID. If I were an EA shareholder today, I would be here asking for people's heads. Because whoever made these choices is killing a gaming genre that is the pinnacle of gaming and is killing a title that would have brought MANY MORE BILLIONS TO THE COMPANY in the future. There is a need for change. We must caress our customers and protect them, as is in the company's interest. COMPANY GIVE CHEATERS HARDWARE BAN all those who inject cheats, scripts, and anyone who uses Cronus DS4 XIM Matrix, all because only in this way will you gain respect and loyalty.65Views2likes4CommentsWeapon levelling
The weapon levelling NEEDS to change. Attachments take way too long to get hold of and although there is some, most of the player base isn’t a sweaty nerd living in their mums basement playing 24/7. Been trying to level up the mini scout for about a week now and so far I’ve only got to weapon level 14. I need about 30 more levels to get the scope I want and unless I start living in my mums basement myself I don’t see it being achievable for the next month or two at least. And thats using it non stop without using any other weapons. Especially when i get put in a bot match where kills give barely any xp. This game feels more of a chore and a grind than actually being fun like bad company 2 was. In fact since then It’s never really been “good” in my opinion. Also the maps on bf6 are a huge disappointment to say the least with vehicles and snipers being the main spawn killing bane of my existence.thelostreborn1 day agoSeasoned Newcomer52Views1like3CommentsHere's how to finally fix the PC vs console argument once and for all
need to do is to give people an option to play against others who use the same input method- controller users on PC and console, separated from mouse and keyboard users on PC and console. Turning crossplay off solves nothing, because PC users can use a controller and console users (at least Xbox not sure about PS) can attach a mouse and keyboard and play this game together. Remember, this should be an OPTION. If people want to use a controller with PC or console - let them. If people want to play with mouse and keyboard on PC or console - let them. Just give them the option NOT to play against people who use a different input method. Problem solved.72Views6likes7CommentsThe Commander must be reintroduced
The feature that should distinguish Battlefield from other arcade FPSs is its organizational and strategic component. Currently, Battlefield 6 is a game that doesn't stand out in this regard. Teams are thrown into the fray, lacking organization, cooperation, and a leader to give them objectives to conquer. Teams with four players are too small and isolated from the rest of the faction and don't actively collaborate, but only passively, hoping that there are better-skilled players among their ranks to overwhelm their opponents. What DICE should focus on is improving the management component, reintroducing the role of the commander, as was present in BF2 and BF2142, and increasing cooperation between teams. Increase the number of players per team from four to five or six, and allow players to start matches with more than three friends, even in classic modes. In BF1, many public servers allowed players to play with more than three friends per match. I don't understand why there is this stupid limitation that compromises one of the most appreciated features of this game.14Views0likes0CommentsThe Console Desync advantage has gone too far and long enough
As a pc player, I find that the console players have far too many advantages! With aim assist acting like an aimbot and a desync that makes getting the drop on them all but impossible. Cutting back on aim assist and syncing the latency up is long past necessary for fair play! You were able to finally fix it in 2042. Let's fix it now before you lose the pc player base again!!!!!132Views5likes10CommentsLack of persistent servers is killing smaller regions
Good evening everyone! I just wanted to talk about how the lack of persistent servers is ruining the gameplay experience for a lot of people. For example: My friends are from South Africa and we seldomly find a full match, and when we do, once that match is done everyone is dispersed across the cosmos, you have to search 2 or 3 times to find where the majority of players got put into. Once you find the match the chances are that you'll be put on the same 3 maps you played the entire evening. DICE this is a waste of time. As a working adult I don't have time to spend 10 minutes looking for a populated match only to play on the same map over and over again. It makes for a terrible gaming experience, I don't know why there is so much resistance to having persistent official servers for each region. The quick play COD style browser may make sense for highly populated regions but it makes no sense for a lot of the less populated regions in the world. At the very least we need to have an option allowing us to choose the region we want to search in the custom search function. Sometimes it's better playing EU servers with 200ms+ ping than playing bots the entire evening. Insisting on this direction for matchmaking will continue to be one of the sore points of this game regardless of how good the content and base gameplay is.Abysswalker6261 day agoSeasoned Rookie33Views1like4CommentsSniping has never been easier than it has been in this title.
Sniper rifles have that stupid sweet spot mechanic, insane muzzle velocity, open maps along with high vantage points on every single map. No aim penalty suppression mechanics. This garbage is getting annoying fast. Reduce the muzzle velocity severely, landing headshots 300/400m + shouldn't be easy yet it is. You've already catered to snipers with the map designMyCanklesHurt1 day agoSeasoned Vanguard52Views2likes2Comments
